When news broke out that Prince died I was driving down a busy street in rush hour. When I got to a stop light, a huge, muscular, 40something white dude motioned for me to roll my window down. For context I was a teenager, black female. The man hollered out the window “PRINCE HAS DIED!!!!” And he was sobbing!! That always stuck with me. Prince had SUCH an impact on all sorts of people.

I remember being a kid and watching Michael Jackson live and it blowing my little kid mind. The next time it was blown was Prince playing purple rain in the rain. Top 2 easy performances easy. Usher did great! And people are so used to lip syncing and performances that are being auto corrected in real time. I didn't mind Alicia cracking because it's live and real and you can still find beauty in the mistakes.
