Braeden- My son is going to a juniors try out in Anaheim this weekend for the Ogden, Utah Mustangs. I was hoping to get some advice from you. So my son was a goalie for many years until COVID hit then he began to skate out with my pick up buddies as a defenseman (long story). Anyway, he is 19 now and in my opinion as well as ALL of his previous coaches he's had, he has outstanding hockey IQ and has always been one of the most coachable players on his teams. Not only that, he's a great teammate and a great kid too! He has turned into quite a defenseman and plays in the top adult league level, going against many previous and current junior level players with no problems at all. Here's my question.......As basically a "nobody" walking into the tryouts this weekend, what can my son do to really stand out as a defenseman?

Great question. Have him play his game and make something happen every shift. Nice first pass, big hit, shot block, shots on net, whatever it is, making things happen is the key

Yes he’s very young, but many scouts start later on!
