@PhrygianFrogMusicProfessionals4 жыл бұрын
Its best to not pug your audio interfaces into a USB hub. Instead, plug each interface directly into its own usb slots on the computer. This will assure the interface is properly powered. Unfortunately, USB hubs do not often have enough power for heavy duty audio hardware.

Great info and very timely for my studio. Question: I have Studio One 5 and would like to use my analog mixer going through one interface for tracking to the DAW. And on playback, I would like you use the Presonus StudioLive 32S mixer for monitoring. (I prefer recording through an analog mixer and using outboard compressors, external mic pres, etc)... So my question is: Can I use an 8 channel Focusrite interface (Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 Rackmount 18x20 USB Type-C) for my analog mixer going into StudioOne (to record the tracks) and use the Presonus StudioLive mixer for playback (and monitoring). Will this method work for that setup? Thanks and great info on your video. Note: I have not bought the Focusrite interface yet, so hence the question before I commit and buy one. Thanks.... I just posted another video on how to do this using Windows Audio in Studio One. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2iZeJturJ16jZo The ASIO4 All Driver will do this just fine. You may want to watch my new video near the end as you have to make sure you setup both devices in non exclusive mode. They both have to have the same bit rate (24 bit as an example) and also need to capture at the same rate (48kHz as an example). I do this with all kinds of interfaces. The key is to make sure they match recording and playback modes. In my new video, Windows Audio is the "clock" controlling the overall latency. There is pros and cons on using this method vs. the ASIO4 All as I talk about as well. Thanks for viewing! Keep us in mind for any of your future projects!

Hi Jason, I would like to be able to use 2 interfaces at the same time to have more outputs using Windows and studio one. I have an Audient id4 and am looking at getting the new Steinberg UR-RT2, do you think it would be possible to use the main two outputs from the id4 to feed my monitors and then use the two main outputs out from the UR-RT2 to go to outboard equipment then back into the line inputs on the UR-RT2? Any help would be appreciated thanks , Alex

How does Asio4all compare in terms of latency to the 2i2 drivers? I'm looking at a scenario where I'll potentially need a second interface (i.e. the Orange Omec Teleport) alongside my 2i2 to support reamping guitars - want to ensure I don't kill myself with latency (I do know about the adjustable buffer size in Asio4all)
@PhrygianFrogMusicProfessionals5 жыл бұрын
Hi ScottyDogg. I have tested many scenarios of 2 or more interfaces working as one ASIO4All device. On MAC OS, there is less latency using an aggregate device a it is built into the Core Audio System of MAC OS. On Windows 10, you just have to make sure that both devices have matching sample rates and bit depths so the devices and ASIO4All do not argue with one another. The Audio Buffer size is dependent on your processor. So latency will vary by system. I have found in experiments that as long as I do not select on-board audio card ports, then the latency is minimal at 1-2ms (most people cannot hear this latency). The latency will always be faster with just using a single device due to bandwidth and direct driver access. So when using 2 audio interfaces, un-check any on-board HD Audio Devices or system audio devices as they are often the culprit for causing latency. One last caution that I have experienced. DO NOT try to run multiple audio interfaces on a USB expansion hub. Many hubs do not allocate the power and bandwidth needed to run 2 or more audio interfaces. You can also damage your interface by under-powering it. Sweetwater has a great article comparing Aggregate Devices for PC and MAC. www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/aggregate-audio-devices-and-drivers-for-pc-and-mac/ I hope the information helps you make some awesome music!

Do you have both interface drivers installed? Also, in order to use both at the same time you have to use the ASIO4 All driver per the video. It acts as your single virtual interface so both can be used at the same time.

@PhrygianFrogMusicProfessionals3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can change the latency in studio one start page to as low as your computer can handle. This will allow for low latency recording with low milliseconds as long as the processor can keep.
@weehudyy Жыл бұрын
The other thing that you can do is monitor from the interface , rather than the DAW itself and there is no latency at all . I was involved in a recording project that used E.drums , DI the bass and the guitar in an iso cab ... there were huge latency dramas which caused timing discrepancies in the room , but when we started monitoring off the 8 ch interface all those problems disappeared . We were producing ourselves , so nothing was being manipulated by a third party engineer while we were tracking . The same technique was used in another recording project using all acoustic instruments and tracking everybody at once in a large room , again a self production without anyone tweaking during the actual recording process . Any EQ or compression was done before the DAW ( the double bass had a line out from a pickup as well as a large diaphragm mic ) so it didn't seem important to monitor from the DAW .

I got Roland se-02 and my audio interface does not have input slot for my new synthesizer, i see se-02 send audio with internal usb interface, so that is the way for me :) Thank you
@PhrygianFrogMusicProfessionals4 жыл бұрын
I see that the Roland Se-02 has a USB-C port on the back. You just need to plug that port into your computer. This will allow you to use the device as a midi controller. If you want the audio recorded, you will need to use a TRS cable and plugin the Output of the Roland se-02 to an audio input of your audio interface. Depending on your device, you may need a TRS to TS+TS cable as some audio interfaces have analogue inputs that are mono only.

Choose either 16 bit for all devices or 24 for all devices including all inputs and outputs for recording and playback. Then you want to choose the same capture rate of either 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz. Let me know how it goes.

I say "weird" its completely normal for an OS to get more restricted esp Windows, it really pisses me off, I ran win7 and win98 for decades with no updates and no problems, they always seem to slow things down too.
