Keep it mild, you already have the Rudicon for wild stuff. 45 axles with lockers and keep it more drivable, I live in the north where all the comanchees have rusted away so hate to see a nice one get too modified beyond recognition. Also the patina is kinda cool where the top is silver and the bottom is still blue, maybe have Robbie clear it to preserve it right where it's at.

Roll bar in the bed, fuel tank or jerry can racks under the roll bar so you don't run out of gas again. Also to rescue your dad when he does. Pull out storage trays in the bed. Locks for everything, including the gas. A decent tarp and bungee cords to transform the bed into a tent for overnighters.

More supple suspension and a rear locker of some type too. 👍 then maybe see if Robby will paint it and spice it up some where between Owen’s Blazer and the Golden Nugget. 🤷‍♂️

I like the build as it is. Tasteful, not too crazy. Fix the suspension issue to smooth out the ride, throw a Detroit locker in the back, but personally, I'd keep it as is after that. Also, I feel you talking about not messing with the trail. One of the trails near me got shut down because the access road to get to it ran through private land and people couldn't resist tearing up the road, leaving trash everywhere, etc. So now a whole trail system is inaccessible.
@Bobbywolf64
@Bobbywolf64 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. People are always trying to limit access and shut down trails to offroad vehicles. Driving off trail, and leaving trash just gives them fuel to shut us down even easier. It is too bad more people don't see that, and take better care of what they have.
@backwoodstherapy
@backwoodstherapy Жыл бұрын
@@Bobbywolf64 yeah this guy had allowed people to use his privately owned access road for decades but people kept being disrespectful and also despite the fact that an _active railroad system_ is an through the property, people still would drive on the tracks and some idiot broke down on the tracks and rather than drive off the tracks to fix the issue he _tried fixing it while on the tracks_ and you can guess what happened next. Luckily no one was hurt or worse but after that the owner shut down access.

I love the shape of the Comanche, looks really good with those bigger tyres. Problem in Australia is all the guys in big lifted 4wds tear up the tracks and make it impossible for anyone without a heavily modified 4x4 to get through. We also have strict registration laws so it's not easy to drive modified vehicles around. Makes me wanna move to Utah and buy an old Comanche to mod 😊
@Bobbywolf64

There are many trails available that are very doable with much smaller, and stock 4wd rigs. More trails than the ones you see these buggies on giant tires on. They are not nearly as entertaining in video, so you don't see much of them on youtube or whatnot. I have a jeep with 33's, and wheel it all the time. I would not dream of going on most of the trails you see these guys do, but that is because it isn't built for that.
@6226superhurricane
@6226superhurricane Жыл бұрын
Also australian, you don't need big tyres hardly anywhere in aus, and bigger tyres do trails easier tearing it up less except for bogholes where it doesn't matter what size tyres you have you're going down. the problem here in Australia is too many vehicles that are terrible offroad like 79 series so they floor it and hope for the best.

You've got an off road rig that does everything already. Dana 44s, 35s, a built stroker 6 cyl, plus suspension mods for road and trail performance/drivability. Comanche that can be driven anywhere in the US, do all but the craziest trails, and then drive home again. With more creature comfort than the Rudicon. AC, decent stereo, maybe a hard shell RTT, maybe a fridge. Not a total overland build but a Swiss Army knife build. A Comanche that is versatile enough to do most everything, not a primarily hard core trail rig. Something you can drive to the Rubicon/ Fordyce, wheel and live out of for a week, and drive home. Whadda ya think?

35”’s will be phenomenal and most likely all the Rudy would need. That’s what I’ve got on my Tacoma and it keeps up with Jeeps in my tire size class that have more money sunk into them. I’m still running the factory IFS and people can’t believe it because 32”’s are supposed to be the biggest that will fit on my truck. All I’ve got to say is, “well, I got them to fit!” and it performs better than anybody gives it credit for! You would just have to see it to believe it.

Rory just did a similar "PSA." 4 wheeling with a 2wd should be called demolition wheeling. Please check with your friend that get gas at Maverik (assuming you filled there). You may not have an enemy; you may have picked up some bad fuel. I still don't ever fill when the tanker is dumping. There are vandals that dump crud/sugar into open underground tanks. Some stations don't lock the caps. You all know now how to smooth the trail; 54s like the wreaker. How about building the "Killer Comanche" on 54s?

I say it is a rare rig, I would put lockers in it but wouldn't go to big of tire maybe 33 max. so you don't have to cut the body all up. You already have the rig for serious off-roading. My thoughts would be a sweet little everyday rig, maybe have Robby Layton paint it or something. Every one would see it and say "Man I would Love to have That", 4X4 for most off-road and snow and sand but use the Rudicon for the hard core stuff.

Good morning Rudy I agree with your PSA people need to stick to the trail since we all want to continue to use the trails. In my opinion having the Commanche as a back up vehicle that can be capable of doing a recovery would be a good idea so you will have it in case you might need it. My question is when you get the Commanche finished. Does that mean Janelle will have the Rudicon and you will have the Commanche? In my opinion that seems like a logical idea so you both can go wheeling together and both have a safe vehicle. I have faith in Janelle and I know she deserves to have a rock crawling vehicle for sure

Love the headliner!!!! I wouldn't get too crazy with it. Just build it up for Jenelle👊🏻

I like the Comanche as it is, I would suggest more supple suspension and maybe Dana 44s front and rear with a rear locker.

The problem with a rear only locker is on steep off camber climbs, the rear end causes the front end to lift drastically. I've seen plenty of rollovers due to this.

So Rudy, I had a ‘90 Comanche with 4 wheel drive that I used on the beach to surf fish in No Fl. I regret selling it a few years ago although I still have a 96 2 dr XJ to cruise the Smoky Mts with where I live now. I’d say that you have a great mid range 4 wheeler In your MJ as it is. Great job with the conversion. Stay safe on the trails MWP Cosby, Tn

Portals FTW! And whatever size tire will fit. Love the way it looks now and portals will let you keep that look since you don’t have to hack it up for a lift or shock towers etc. Plus, there are not many build videos doing portals, so there’s the unique factor you need.

Leave it as is. It looks perfect right now but do fix the rough ride though. Shackle angle on the rear usually works wonders on an XJ and I'm pretty sure it's the same for the Comanche
