Rudy, I was having issues with my fuel system on my Dodge Diesel, so I went to Harbor Freight and got me a tool kit. Did a sketchy shelf road in Colorado for 20 miles that while we were on it we kept saying we were glad we wouldn’t have to come back this way , we were within a couple of miles of where we were going to come out and the roadbed sluffed off the mountain . We had to back up miles to get turned around and once again we said we would never do this again alone. ha ha we all know how that goes. Thanks for taking us along.

You can just winch it back up straight or push it with a forklift, brace things up and replace a few boards here and there and get it structurally solid again; and then we typically put new sheet metal all on the outside and roof and then it's like a new building. And you would never know that it was almost falling over into a pile of splinters.

When you can, when lug nuts get loose, need to get the wheel off the ground, if you can't just move the truck a few feet retighten, then the same thing over again several times as the lugs have to get realigned. @brianworley7705 Жыл бұрын
Rudy, on the lugs loosening issue. I might consider checking the steering u-joints for wear. I had the locking hub bolts kept backing out on a truck. An acquaintance said his friend had the same issue and discovered destructively that the worn u-joints were vibrating the axle as it rotated causing the hub bolts to loosen. His axle lasted several thousand miles before the destruction happened. Mine had not gone so very long so figured i had a little leeway to repair. Had one quick round of snow plowing to do and then the truck could rest long enough to get the u-joints replaced. Nope! Two corners down the road one wheel locked, kind of. Unlocked that hub and kept the other engaged to help a little bit while plowing. Three corners later with less than a half mile traveled total, u-joint came apart tearing the ears off the axle shaft yoke and both ears off the steering knuckle assembly. Axle ruined in a half mile of use. So much for a couple hours of use and repair. That truck unfortunately got scrapped for lack of finding an affordable replacement axle.

I had problems with the studs and nuts on my 1974 F-100 coming loose or snapping from running the front suspension over loaded. I carried a full set of studs and nuts, a large 4 way from NAPA and odds and ends to be able to replace them on a trail. If they cross threaded or “welded” to the stud the 4 way was strong enough to break the stud off and start over.
