Thanks for the tip re drilling relief holes, currently drilling hard stone walls in sw france for a rewire. Tct wont cut it but diamond does, relief holes make job go quicker

This type of bit should be used in a rotary hammer mode drill. Not just rotary. Diamond core bits require rotary mode only. The extra step of drilling out small holes is not worth the time especially into brick. If it was very hard cement or the bit was very dull from drilling thru rebar then maybe. But that’s in a pinch. Other wise these types of bits will work well with a little blowout on back side of hole. And even drill thru rebar. With some definite wear on bit for doing so.

Yes . With drilling around the perimeter , which is nit necessary , that core bit will last a long time . Especially when drilling through soft brick . I've drilled through concrete with aggregate with that bit and it worked fine . This video is not a true test of that bit's ability .

Great video!! Based on this video, I bought this same affordable masonry hole saw from Amazon and used it to easily bore a clean round hole in a brick chimney to install a replacement water heater. My hammer drill has a standard 1/2" chuck and did not match the special end, but I was able to fit it in anyway, slightly off center, and it worked just fine. Many thanks!!! :)

Bought two because they are so damn cheap and I got a little bit of a discount for buying two as opposed to one. Sump pump storm drainage project. One hole through cinder block and one hole through a curb. I think it's going to work just fine. They look pretty heavy duty and the price is ridiculously inexpensive.👍

I don't know if it was my technique (total novice) or the bit... But it took me over an hour using a corded, Mikita, hammer drill (rented from Home Depot) with this bit. Same application as the author; brick facade. I used the hammer function 99% of the time. Anyway... I eventually got through.... Definitely took more than 9 minutes though! Not looking forward to having to do THAT again!

Two things that should be emphasized. This is SDS Plus, and the power tool is using the roto hammer setting. This bit is not for drilling, it is for roto hammering a hole.

We got the best and newest Hilti tools in the biz. An let me tell you, it still takes a man to run em. The clutches are their so they only break your arms or face and wont rip them off. But it maybe takes us literally 60 seconds to drill through something like that using a Hilti 70 and a Hilti bit. An we would never waste time drilling all those smaller holes. Plus your asking for trouble doing that because the surface is now jagged so it will cause massive twist on the drill because the concrete is stronger than the hold you have on it.

Thanks for the input! If I was drilling holes like this for a living, I would definitely want a better setup. I did another video recently drilling a hole through a cinder block: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKSVm5asbqtmbKM I didn't drill holes around the perimeter for that video. Based on a comment from this video, I did remove the pilot bit once it got started. I also didn't use the hammer on that video, just straight drilling. I've had people commenting that I should or shouldn't have hammer on. You seem to know your stuff. What is your take on that?

@@Rickmakes always pilot inside to out and always use hammer drill unless worried about blow out or front chipping. But a way to solve that is to turn hammer off, start your bore then switch it on and you'll have a clean round hole.

I have 2 of these for running 2" and 3" pvc through masonry for furnace exhaust/fresh air I probably have about 10 feet worth of different masonry material on the 65mm and the teeth are just starting to round off, will sharpen them and try for ten more feet.

$19? Bargain...I was impressed you drilled so many holes to help it.. I mean't it sounded like a bargain..after watching this..I went to Lowes and bought a Spyder 2" 51mm concrete block/brick hex 10 Tungsten/carbide and the necessary Spyder Hex10 Pilot drill and arbor...the drill/arbor was $19.98 and the hole saw $14.98. I have a concrete block wall with stone face ...and I worked through the block ok..the stone was REAL SLOW ..about half way through I hit it with a cold chisel...coming out the outside wall..and the stone luckily split in two..leaving me a clean 2" hole (but it could've detached the stone). To cut through stone I would need diamond I think. I had to do this right away or I would have ordered Amazon...thanks for the video.

I had the same idea to try this same kit because I need to drill 1 hole in the side of the house for a electrical lb. I've drilled for about 2 hours, dry at first,then with a mist of water on the bit,and I am barely through the first brick (2 total). The pilot bit goes through like butter on hammer drill but you are only suppose to use the core bit on regular mode and it is taking forever. It seems to cut slightly better with water and I have tried very slow drilling (rpm's) and mid range. I would not personally recommend this kit, but you had better luck than I did.

No clutch on this old drill. The TE17 was Hilti's first hammer drill released over 50 years ago. It still holds its own but doesn't have any fancy (i.e. safety) features. I wish it has chisel only mode. I mostly use it to drill 1/4" holes in cinder block walls.

Bought a 4” version and used it today to go through one layer of brick for an exhaust vent. I drilled a small pilot hole inside going out then used the 4” hole saw to go outside in like you did. Drilled the extra relief holes as well. Worked great and the vent fit perfectly and looked very professional. Would have never tried it without this video. Thank you again!!!

A 2 lb hammer wouldve been the cheapest way I do hvac ive got hammer drills with some pretty good bits but if its just a layer or 2 a good couple spacks with a 2lb hammer will nock a damn near perfect hole for a 2” pvc pipe

I used the hammer mode but it is my understanding that I should have used just the rotary mode. In the end I was able to drill my hole and the bit didn't break. If I need to drill another, I'll probably just try rotary alone first. Either way I will still drill smaller holes around the perimeter first.

I also got this 65mm hole saw for making a hole in 9 inch brick wall I used a Lacela Rotary Hammer , 222403, 720 watts. I had difficulty in making the hole which I ultimately made. Initially I scribed the circumference through the saw. Then I made four to five full length hole through another masonry bit (it was thicker then 5/16). I also made the center hole through. But when I started to use the saw and after moving some distance the saw would Jam and the drill would be rotating inside maybe its impact hammer function was slipping over because torque of jammed core bit would exceed its power. Ultimately I made the hole using the chisel bit provided with the drill in hammer mode and making almost 10 through holes in circumference. The result was a hole but not the fine looking one get with core bit. I have few questions maybe experts may help me.

There are pros and cons to each method. I was easily able to locate where to drill outside because this hole was adjacent to some AC lines. Otherwise I would have at least drilled my pilot hole from the inside. If I drilled from the inside, I would have had to hold the drill above my head. I would have also had to drill through the sill and then there is a gap between it and the brick. This would have made it hard to chisel out the center and remove it. I could have drilled in from both directions as opposed to chiseling out the core. Finally, drilling outside kept the dust outside. :)

Looking at going through a 10 inch foundation wall. The depth of your bit looked to be about 2-3 inches deep. How does one break the cement off so its possible to drill through a 10 inch cement wall with a 3 inch deep pocket bit?

I would use a cold chisel and a drilling hammer to remove pieces every 2-3 inches. You could also drill a pilot hole through the whole wall and drill in from each side with the hole saw. You would still have to chisel out the center a bit but it might be a little easier. I would probably use the hole saw to score the circle it is going to cut. Then drill any number of holes in the middle area. This would make it easier to chisel out later.

Typically a rotary hammer will have an 'impact only' setting. First you bottom out the core bit then switch out a chisel, break up and remove the slug. Rinse, repeat.

This bit has an SDS shank on it so you need a drill that works with it. You might be able to find an adapter if necessary. You don't need the hammer. I read comment from different people saying you should or shouldn't use hammer mode. It does drill without hammer.

I would try whacking it with a hammer a few times on the side of the core bit on the end near the threads. Maybe this will loosen it up. If that doesn’t work, you could try putting the shaft in a vice and sticking a rod (like a screwdriver) in the hole of the core bit. Then hit it with a hammer in the direction to unthread it. Needless to say, be careful as things can go flying when you hit them with a hammer.

@@Rickmakes Hi, dude, none of them works. The shank is made of absolute pure steel. Too hard and slippery. Even a vice cannot grip it. I decide to weld 2 piece of 3/4" hex nuts on the shank by removing those threads inside the nuts first. After that is done, separate the shank and core will be a cinch. Thanks for your suggestions anyway.

These hole saws use an SDS shank. I'm guessing pretty much any drill with an SDS chuck would be able to drill a 65mm or 90mm hole. SDS chucks aren't generally used on smaller, weaker drills.

I do installations daily, drill 4 inch holes thru walls using drills up to core drills and we always drill test hole from inside. You can "blow the brick off" but only a small piece. There's an art to not doing that as well. You always drill test holes from inside out. There's more obstacles in inside.

I found a couple of different models available on Amazon in India. They look similar to the one I am using. www.amazon.in/s?k=65mm+SDS+Plus+Shank+Hole+Saw+Cutter&ref=nb_sb_noss Some of those had bad buyer ratings so make sure you check that out before you order. They also had some shorter shanks on some so be aware of that.

Only thing I see if your cheap hilti 😂 you didn't need to do the 9 holes.. Get a better hilti model. I got expensive bits vs cheap bits. I see no difference 🙄

If you want to drill butter, I would recommend freezing it first. That way it holds its shape better.

you did so many things wrong. 1st you don't use a hole saw on hammer. 2. you should remove the pilot bit after you score the hole 1/2" or so. if you don't the bit will jam up in the hole. I could go on lol

Pretty sure you are wrong. Carbide teeth hole saws for masonry are meant to be used on hammer rotary mode that is why one disadvantage of them is a bust out on the opposite side. A diamond hole saw is to be used on rotary only-no hammer, but are very effective and give a very clean hole.

I'll back up, I just saw conflicting instructions on the tungsten carbide tooth hole saws. One company said to use hammer and the other said not to. But considering the disadvantage is back side blow out, it seems the hammer function would cause that. Still a decent diamond drill will do a better job, imo.

man i got the core cup stuck on arbor how to unscrew them?!!

You can sometimes tap the side of the core cup with a hammer to help loosen up the threads. You could also try clamping a vice grip to the arbor and use channellocks on the cup to give you leverage.
