Thanks for this I am still debating if I am going to purchase one or not It is a big investment, I guess I do the whole " I don't think I'm good enough sewer for one ! " although I sew mainly with stretch/ knits I have some money coming soon which is a small ( unexpected) payout from work so I guess I could say "well I didn't take it from my bank" , let work pay for it !

Well I have never regretted investing in a coverstitch machine and if you buy a good quality one they will last for decades. When I bought my first one I didn't even have a steady job and went for a coverstitch/serger combo and even though it was a lot of money for me at the time it was worth every penny. So I would think you'll find it very useful since you already sew a lot of knits!

does it only sew one type of width? or is it possible to bring the needles closer together for a more narrow stitch??

I have the same machine. When sewing Knits using the Schmetz or Organ ELx705 Suk needles has really helped me with skipped stitches. The Suk ones are a little harder to find but well worth it. As well using Maxi Lock stretch thread in the looper work's really nice. Also I've seen lots of videos about ending the stitch by pulling the thread forward, cutting the thread , then pulling the fabric out the back which is suppose to eliminate the hand sewing and knotting to secure the stitch. It seems to work for me. Have you tried this?
@Thelaststitch
@Thelaststitch 7 жыл бұрын
Yes the right needles are EVERYTHING, especially when sewing lycra knits. I use the pull method sometimes, depending on what I'm sewing. It does require some practise. I'm working on a new coverstitch video, and it that one I will share that method too
@27kjh
@27kjh 7 жыл бұрын
Last Stitch your so right...the right needle are everything. When I learned to sew years ago I never knew anything about needles. I thought the only time you changed a needle is when it broke. No wonder I had so much trouble.Forty years later I'm sewing again and with help of the internet and videos like yours...I'm having success. Now I'm really loving sewing. Thanks.

I recently heard that you are supposed to switch the needles after 6 hours of sewing. That is not very much at all! I don't change them that often, but it made me think I should probably start switching them more often than I currently do

Hello Johanna, I had been working with a beginners sewing machine for many years, I do the most is hems (pants and jerseys most of them, and on pants hem I've seen the cross stitch under and on top you see no stiching at all I'll like to do that) fixing patching adjusting, repairing and creating small things like head bands, or hand bags y some time work with heavy materials like burlap or jeans and leather, so as you see I do a bit of everything 😄 what machine or machines would you recomend me to get I am having trouble deciding and getting overwhelming researching and reading reviews. Please help me.

Hi! I hesitate to give machine recommendations since I've only owned two in my life, but BabyLock CS machines are the ones that get the best reviews, but they also cost more. Other popular brands are Janome (I have one and like it, but it has mixed reviews) and Brother.

I have a Nina and work mainly on stretch fabric. When stitching, it appears that the upper layer of fabric is being pushed, thereby causing a twist in the hem, so I stop every few stitches and lift the presser foot to straighten the fabric. Do you think that my problem might be too much pressure from the foot?
@Thelaststitch
@Thelaststitch 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, reduce the presser foot pressure, it will usually fix this issues on knits 👍

Have you tried switching the soft/tight lever? (if your coverpro has one) That can help too. If you follow all the steps in the video, you will have eliminerad all the common user error stuff and for in-depth info on the settings of a Coverpro depending on material and such, see this excellent guide www.coverstitching.com/doku.php?id=the_janome_2000_cpx

Dear Johanna, I am strongly considering buying the Babylock Coverstitch machine. HOw do you like yours? I don't have one now, but I can get one new for $1000 US dollars. I think that might be a good price. Did you purchase any accessories such as a new foot? Is it easier to lock/end the stitch than you other machine?

Everyone seems very happy with the BabyLock, so I feel confident in recommending it!

pleaase i news help. Im sewing with 2 needles on the 2 licras plus The elastic.. And The thread breaks anytime i go over The joints do YOU Think that a domestic Cover stich machine is suitable forse this thicknesses? Can You suggest me some tensions numbers, differential And some other tip for this purpose? Im loosing My Kind. .. machine is NECCHI C4 NEEDLES STRECH 90 TRHEADS are 100%poliestere all over

Hi! Bulk is problematic for a coverstitch machine and it looks like you have done things right. Lowering the presser foot pressure can help and using a hump jumper to lift the presser foot can also help. That said a local coverstitch expert I talked to recently said that we home sewers often have unrealistic expectations of what a domestic CS actually can do, especially when it comes to sewing over thick layers

Last Stitch yeah..I ll Buy An industrial one. meanwhile. .I thought i had To tight up The preessure of The Foot in order for The lycra thick layer To be pressed more and slides more easily. Or should It be set looser?

If only there was a magic way to thread the needles. I have to take the foot off so I can see the eyes. Then I have a battle getting the foot back on. The metal lever often slips off. Or if I get the metal leaver roughly where it should be I can’t get the attachment to line up under the vertical bar. It’s a nightmare
