Using a Dalek voice modulator kit as an audio frequency shifter

Following on from my last video I raise the local oscillator's frequency and give it a wider range to make it a frequency shifter rather than an audio inverter. It can shift from upper audio (and potentially ultrasonic) down to audio frequencies by mixing with a tunable local oscillator.

Pehaps you could use this too to make bat sounds audible? What kind of microphone would you need for that?

That is exactly how a heterodyne bat detector works. You can buy them cheap or build them yourself with a handful of components. I like the frequency division ones myself :)

Just made this project with my 9 yr old son and it doesn’t work. Just getting a constant buzzing noise. Off to check all my resistor values are correct now… 😢
