Using A Modded PSP In 2023 (is it really worth it?)

yep, i agree. the only real reason to get one is if you want the experience, it's otherwise outperformed by modern options, even price-wise (smartphones, emulation handhelds). i got one recently as i'm into collecting older hardware, it's rather inexpensive, and i also never had a handheld growing up and i wanted to scratch that itch. and it's great, i think it aged well - it doesn't feel slow or cheesy, i enjoy picking it up.

built quality of these android emulation handhelds cannot compare to the feeling of a PSP in your hands, its unfortunate that the PSP is not as much performance to give high compatability... i would love a psp1000 or psp3000 powerful enough to run all n64 games with sound and max fps... the retroid pocket for example, is way too big. it's clunky and does not feel like a handheld, more like a tablet with a controller dock... fortunately in 10 years maybe chips are powerful enough i can buy a microscopic SBC place inside a psp shell with custom screen and controller drivers... who knows, probably even be able to play gamecube/ps2 with ease at that size next decade since mobile chips are getting so powerful.

I have a Modded PSP Slim 2000 because I wanted to play my old PSP games I never finished. I Got a Vita 2000 because I was told of all that is can do. But the controls are meh on the Vita, and I ran into issues playing PS1 games on adrenaline. I went back to my PSP - 2000 in 2023 and I love it. I still have not given up on the Vita yet but I will be hard press to make that my retro Playstation daily Driver over my PSP.

likewise I bought a vita and loved the gaming although the controls were fine and the software was great I sold it due to needing extra money.. Bought a PSP 3000 last week really cheap, modded it and am really enjoying the console and find myself playing it more than I did the vita. The way the PSP fits into my hand and the larger face buttons appeal to the form factor. I miss my vita sometimes but am extremely pleased with the PSP 3000 in 2024

@Damian Bergreen i found why the modded psp might have games not working. they might be bad iso files and it's best to put your games in diffrent files so the psp won't slow down for loading all the games.

About battery life. My battery pack got swollen. It swelled up. Time for a replacement I think. I never dropped it or so and it's an original. So, if your door/cap, whatever you call it, doesn't close very well, take a look at your battery pack. It's a ticking time bomb. I read that it can catch fire.

In my opinion yes, a 4 year old could jailbreak the PSP if they watched the correct KZbin video so that alone coupled with how many PSP, NES, SNES, PS1, N64, GAMEBOY, SEGA , ETC. that you can actually play on the go in a comfortable form factor. I adore my Vita and My Switch but my PSPs are both still ELITE

The worth and valu of items are subjective on the person. For some people it's the nostalgia. Some will be able to mod it and install all the games that you couldn't. Some will buy it for less, like myself. I bought a psp for like 30 dollars which is totally worth it to me and people are willing to pay me to 100 after because I mod it and put games. so I think it's worth it.

Hi man how's it going! I'm thinking of buying one too but all i could find at a reasonable price is a white psp 1000 and i wanted to get ur advice if it's okay to get a 1000 or wait till i get a 2000/3000. I know that the 1000 doesn't have the best screen but if it's not that noticeable it's okay. Thanks!

The PSP 1000 doesn't have as much RAM as the 3000 and also lacks the ability to connect to a external display. Overall yes you can but if you want to have the best performance and best compatibility with homebrew apps such as Minecraft, then you will want to get a 3000 model. Look on ebay, that's the best place to find a good PSP. Also the 3000 performs way better on normal games.

@@damianbergreen Thanks man for the quick reply! The problem is the shipping cost for my country is high (approximately 50-60$) which is a bit too pricey . Imma try to look it up in somewhere near me and i hope i find one for a good price but if i don't my only solution is the 1000.

Someone ported the Capcom Play System 1 and 2 to the PSP. They also ported MVS which plays most of the NEO GEO arcade library so, yea, pretty much 1 to 1 emulation of your favorite Capcom and NEO GEO cabinets. All the Metal Slugs, Baseball Stars and Street Fighter games are playable with that PSP that is gathering dust under your bed.

I remember running movies and music from the sd cards so it's definitely doable probably some wierd codec/ wrong forlder thing went wrong there

Your evaluation of the console is wrong, because the majority of the buyers won't be using it to browse the internet or listen to music because they have a smartphone for that. The people that will buy a PSP will do it for the awesome games and experience. I can emulate any PSP game on my phone, but I cannot find a decent controller for it and won't spend 100$ on a dedicated smartphone controller when I can buy a PSP for 50$ and mod it.

No I stated that that's an option. The primary replacement I recommended was a PS Vita because you can spend about the same amount of money that a PSP 3000 or Go would cost, mod it and have a far better experience. The PSP is still one of my favorite systems. The main thing I was trying to point out was that the PSP is no longer relevant for the functions that it was relevant for back then which yes movies and music were part of those functions. And in the end I'm not wrong because I mentioned that this was my opinion on the matter. I am going to do a part 2 video

I actually much prefer the interface of a psp over a ps vita. The Vita is annoying designed imo. I hate how it goes into a second window before opening things. And then the process of closing things.

I actually agree with you on that. I love how the PSP UI is a lot like the PlayStation 3's UI. I can kinda see how the PS Vita's homescreen is more optimized for it's OLED panel and touchscreen though. They should have made the PS Vita's homescreen like the PlayStation 4's UI.

5:04 I've that issue a lot with mp3 files on my PSP. Don't know why that is because there's nothing wrong with the files. I can play them without any issue on VLC, or so.

How do you download games i just got myself a psp go and i cannot figure out how to get games on it for shit ive tried searching videos and everything and none of them really make sense to me i dont know what sites to use or anything pls someone explain to me how to download games using a pc or something

After modding the system you should see a folder called ISO on the root of the memory stick if it's not there then create one then go on Google and look up PSP ISO archive and you'll find a couple collections of ISO files it will give you the option to download all of them but don't do that instead click on the option that says show all and select each individual file most of them will be in a compressed package such as dot zip or dot 7z. Inside of that file will be the ISO file and you just put it in the ISO folder on your memory stick and then put the memory stick inside of your PSP or if you were doing it from the PSP restart your PSP after that you should be able to go to the game icon go down to memory stick press X on it and it will show all the games that you had downloaded and put on there if you need me to create a video showing how to do this I will
