Great video. Short, to the point, clear, and helpful. Thanks.

Around min 2:40 he says low resistance indicates an open line, and high resistance indicates a short circuit, but that is actually the opposite. It seems he knows what he is talking about though, so maybe just speaking mistake ...

I caught that too.

I’m a mush mouth. I said 0 or no resistance is open. Very high is a bad splice or Nick bleeding to ground. :0

Be sure to turn on each zone (one zone at a time) before testing its output voltage. This instruction goes by pretty fast: from 1:45 to 1:51.

Great video, Thank you! I tested the control panel for incoming AC voltage at the transformer it had the correct amount. Each of my 4 zones do not show any AC power leaving the box. I then tested the solenoids from the box, and they all show they are good (42 Ohms). What does this mean for my system? All the screws for the common and zone wires are secure. Any ideas?

Great video, it helped me fix a short I caused by putting a stake in the ground that hit one of my sprinkler lines. It was easy once I tested the ohms at the controller and then the solenoid itself. Thanks for sharing.

helped me today i never used volt meter always station master pro..fixed 2 zones the problem was common wire they did prvious repair didnt hook up common heading to those zones..

When you're field testing a solenoid does the zone need to be powered to get the ohm reading? I have a brand new solenoid and I'm not getting a reading. I'm testing the new solenoid on my work bench

No power when testing ohms

If my solenoid reads 24 ohms in the filed is it bad?

My sprinklers were working fine until one day the controller box (Rainbird ESP modular) stopped communicating with the valves. I had my neighbor test the voltage. I had 30 coming into the box but 2 when testing zone 1. I can manually open the valves and they work. I don't know what do to next. I don't have my own voltage meter. Could the wire coming from the house going into the valve box have an issue? Is there a fuse that could be affected?

It could be a bad wire. If its opening manually you know it's not the valve. If the solenoid is good then it's either the controller or wire. I know you posted this awhile ago. Hope you got it taken care of

But I was kind of confused by what you said, if it was less than 30 like he said it's probably the solenoid. Sorry, I was kind of confused by what you said.

When I checked the voltage on each station, the dial needle bounced up and down very lightly. This happened to every stations. What should I do? I am suspecting the common wire is broken somewhere. Maybe it is the sprinkler panel? Since the wiring is buried underneath my house, it would be very difficult to rerun it. Please help! Thanks

On KZbin, you can easily and quickly change the play speed. Click on the Settings icon (looks like a gear wheel).
