I'm actually writing this comment before I watch the video. I wanted to say ahead of time that I appreciate this because now that I am retired, my budget no longer permits the purchase of the type of camera I'd like (think Sony mirror less). So my main camera is actually my iPhone Pro Max, which I can replace every year or two for far less than the purchase of an updated camera. And as I said before, I appreciate videos like this that allow me to take full advantage of the camera in my pocket.

Thanks for watching, once you do, and I totally agree. I own a few “real” cameras, but when I go on vacation I don’t take them anymore. I started using just my phone on vacations back with my iPhone 6, and now, like you, I use an iPhone 14 Pro Max. There are times I could benefit from something else, but not enough to make me carry it.

@@BehindTheShot - And FWIW, over the years I've had everything from Ricoh, a Pentax, and more recently a Canon and a Lumix. So I know my way around a SLR (D and otherwise) and took some pretty neat photos. Not a professional by any means and always stayed in the hobbyist category. Now that I'm older, I just enjoy taking pictures for the heck of it.

Phone camera photography is a perfect example of showing that it's all about effort: composition, lighting, and timing. Lots of people out there discredit photographers with "Oh, they have a thousand dollar camera, of course their photos look like that." but this proves that a camera is just a tool.

Great shots with the iPhone. If I'm traveling I also take my Sony RX100 as it's small enough to sit right on your belt in a case, so hands free, but adds a quality 200mm zoom that the cell phones lack.

I feel like a broken record... Another great episode, Steve! Jefferson is a great guest and I always enjoy the iPhone Photo Show and Photowalks TV as well. I just had a couple people interested in joining our local photo club this morning and they were worried because they 'only' had smartphone cameras, so this episode was great timing (and yes, they will be joining the club now).
@BehindTheShot

That’s awesome that the club is an option for people shooting with phones. It should be, but I fear many clubs would reject the idea. Thanks for the kind words, and yes, Jefferson is so fun to talk with.

just on the Eiffel Tower shot from the Arc De Triomphe ( great shot BTW ) it reminded me of my trip to Manhattan NYC where we were contemplating going up the Empire State Building or the Rockefeller Centre and I decided on RC because where else could you get the best shot possible of the Empire State Building ?

another great episode. You both mentioned watermarks. Do you think that anything posted on SM should be watermarked? I'm not a professional (yet) but I know I'd be pretty P'd if I saw one of my images somewhere. I've heard yes I've heard no, I see some professionals I follow do some don't.
@BehindTheShot

Thanks for watching, Andrew. The reason you different answers is there are various goals. Many people I know hard watermarks, and refuse to use them. Others like the added branding. Everyone knows a watermark can be removed, so it won’t stop a serious thief, just like an alarm doesn’t stop all theft. From a legal point of view it does give benefits, if a thief removes it that can help in court and possibly increase and remedy you get. There are so many points in play that each person needs to decide for themselves. For me, I watermark. I did a series on copyright. It’s under a playlist here on YT.

As far as I am concerned, the only time I will use my iPhone as a camera is during emrtgencies such as recording the effects of an auto accident. If I were to go "anywhere" in which I "plan" to take pictures - like a vacation. I will be dammned if I would use my iPhone. Why don't I like my phone as a camera? 1. There is no decent way to use fill-flash with a phone. Fill-flash is very critical when shooting outdoors because often the sun is bright and contrasty - especially here in Southern California. 2. Lens selection - I have a greater selection of lens types to use with my morrprless cameras. 3. Seeing my subject in bright sunlight on my LCD. I use my camera's eye level viewfinder out doors. 4. I like having removable memory cards for my cameras. 5. No decent way to use off-camera flash with a iPhone. Off-camera flash can make the difference between a "professional" portrait and a snap shot. 6. My Sony cameras have very effective eye-auto focus both for animals and for humans. There are many other reasons that I use my cameras instead of my iPhone for serious phoography but, the above are just a few.

The iPhone 14 only has 2 cameras - a 26mm main lens and a 13mm wide lens. It doesn't have a 77mm lens or anything near it!
@BehindTheShot
@BehindTheShot Жыл бұрын
The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max have 3 cameras: Main: 24 mm, ƒ/1.78 aperture Ultra Wide: 13 mm, ƒ/2.2 aperture Telephoto: 77 mm, ƒ/2.8 aperture Plus the 2x Telephoto (enabled by quad-pixel sensor): 48 mm, ƒ/1.78 aperture If we said it as “iPhone 14” we meant to say Pro or Pro Max. It happens.

@@BehindTheShot yes, it does but he's not talking about a 14 Pro - he constantly mentions the iPhone 14.

Because generically they are all called iPhone 14, and qualifying every single reference is not practical, but you know that and know what he means.
@TotalOpel

@@BehindTheShot the problem is while I know the difference not everyone would know the difference. Jefferson clearly knows his stuff about shooting on iPhones - his photos are amazing! There are people watching this video who may not be so knowledgeable and they hear him saying he shoots at 77mm on an iPhone 14 so they go out and but an iPhone 14 for this feature only to find that the iPhone 14 doesn't have a 77mm camera! When sharing advice people shouldn't talk generically!
@BehindTheShot
@BehindTheShot Жыл бұрын
Dude, no one will always include “Pro” or “Pro Max” with every reference. That’s not how natural conversation works. If it was a scripted instruction maybe. It’s not. I don’t always say I love my Lexus (model here). I say I love my Lexus. That’s how people talk. Sorry it bothered you man, I’m not worried about it.

When dealing anywhere in the electromagnetic spectrum (radio, Tv , Light, x-rays) there is no substitute for real estate. The little pin-hole cell phone 'lens' just cannot gather the light no how much it is supported by high tech electronic foo-foo. It is fun, convenient, and inexpensive but data is data and the cute little cell phone just cannot gather much.
@BehindTheShot
@BehindTheShot Жыл бұрын
No one is saying a phone can fully replace a “real” camera. I’d never use one for shooting what I shoot - concerts. But the “fun, convenient, and inexpensive” part is enough for many at times. Not every shoot, or every shot, is a commercial or portfolio piece.
