One point: attach the uninflated paddlefloat to the paddle blade, secure it, THEN inflate. Saves struggling with sliding the inflated paddlefloat onto a blade (esp if your paddlefloat is double chambered).

I have tried a bunch of different methods. With my arthritic shoulders this looks like the one way I've seen that could help me. Thanks! I really appreciate this innovative idea and will be trying it out later today. I'll follow up and let you know how it goes. I think as long as the paddle doesn't slide around or break it will be great. And I usually am with other kayakers who are always happy to help. Since you only need to get your upper body on the kayak, I'm hoping that's not going to break the paddle shaft.

Seems to me that the end result of the stirrup set-up is that you are applying the stepping force on the strap by the side of the kayak. So if you had a kayak that had rod mounts or similar anchor point on the deck, could you not just loop a shorter length of strap over it and get the same stirrup effect without use of the paddle?

Any reason you can’t use this same principle in a bass boat by attaching a loop of webbing to a cleat on the transom?

I'm not but I got my canoeing merit badge in 1972. At 66 I'm just getting into kayak fishing. Inshore.
