First time sewing. Worked like a charm for my pocket. Great video!

So why baste it instead of pinning? Would they have wasted thread to do this historically? Just curious.

Hi Sarah, which sort of garments would you find this on? It seems like a really fast way to hem (yay!) but am wondering where it’s appropriate to use. A petticoat maybe?

Is the first line of stitching then removed or do you leave it there? Thank you!

The first line (that’s bigger and called basting) is temporary it just holds the fold in place while you do the smaller second line of stitches. EDIT to add: So you take the first row out after you do the second set.

Curious to know how long the string is !! Looks like it is cut before hand.
@sewncompany2 жыл бұрын
Yes it is cut before hand. It is as long as your arm from essentially your fingertips to your shoulder. And you thread the needle with one strand and leave a tail that’s about a third of the length of the usable thread. I also have a video on how to thread your needle and knot your thread if that is of interest.

could this be used on a plain collar?

You can use this technique to sew the collar together on the sides.
