I saw Jane Monteith Art on instagram work with alcohol inks in such an awe-inspiring way, she has an awesome book that will blow your mind away, it's called, “The Ultimate Fluid Pouring and Painting Project Book”, link below if you want to buy it. It took days and days of trials to be able to recreate Jane Monteith’s method on rocks, and I am very happy to have finally figured it out. In this video, I start by painting the easier rock first, then it gets harder and harder, and the hardest is the last rock. My favourite is the big round one, the process of painting this rock is really simple, and it turns out looking like modern abstract art. All the supplies used to make this video are listed below, so it should be very easy for you to follow along and paint your own rocks.

Great idea, easy to follow video,can you use alcohol inks on regular rocks with same techniques????

Yes you sure can, just make sure to paint them white first, then gloss them… after that they will be ready for the alcohol ink 😊

I love this ideabut I have a question do you let that varnish dry before you put the alcohol inks on

Yes I do leave it to dry until it is no longer sticky to the touch, it takes about 1 hour to fully dry.

2 questions please - do you let each coat dry before you put more colour on to make it darker? And would you have any idea why once I put the alcohol ink on it goes straight through the layers of ink and gloss and chalk paint right down to the bare stone again in parts?

You need to leave the chalk paint to dry, then leave the gloss to dry, then leave the alcohol to dry. At least two hours of drying in between coats. Make sure your chalk paint is more than one layer. Yes I do leave the alcohol ink to dry before I add another layer to dry. Hope that helps
