I just tried the VideoViewer Pro with my iPad Pro 12.9 (model just before the M1) and my M2 iPad Pro 12.9 and iPad mini 6 with An Obsbot Tiny (1080 camera) and that worked Directly USB-C to the iPad. It also worked through a OSETUB Usb Dongle/SSD enclosure for the iPad. (really nice to have that external storage) and it works great. NOW remember all usb-c Hubs are not equal.. If it has a Headphone jack it will hijack your audio. So avoid hubs with Headphone jacks. Really cool stuff. Thanks for posting this. (and yes this gained you one new Subscriber

Excellent, makes the USB-C pads so versatile getting some of that super quality to shine for other sources. The old Surface RT mystery box has a real good display but unfortunately doesn't seem to be able to catch the signal from a USB capture card. There might be some other older tablet it works on, thinking about 7-9" ones. Will need a cage or rig to protect the micro-usb port from cable strain.

I'm such a novice with this stuff. I want to use an iPad as a monitor or viewfinder, so I can have a bigger screen to see focus and setup, especially when trying to take pics with the camera facing me, and not having to rely on the camera's screen. Is there a simpler way to do this, (without using the Canon Connect app) or do I have to go through a similar setup as you do here?

Hi Alex... I had never thought of that use case... great idea. I have already tried it and got it to work. If you do it wirelessly, you'll need a third party app. I tried it with an app called ApowerMirror and it worked great. There is another way using a cable. Hopefully I can a video out in the next two weeks showing how this is done both ways.

Hi! 👋 This video is so well organized and presented. I almost didn’t click because I don’t even know what a field camera monitor is, but I’m glad I did! I make videos about camera gear and stock / ETF investing and when I fill my videos, I really cannot see focus very well from the tiny screen on the back of my Sony A7IV. So, I think it might be really nice to have an external monitor like the one you have with the iPad in this video. I have been thinking of buying an iPad, but never really had a purpose for it other than Maybe video editing on the run. But now I see a really, useful application. It really does make a difference when you can see the monitor large rather than a tiny little screen. Do you think an iPad is the way to go, or would it be simpler and less expensive to buy a (non-iPad) monitor for my Sony camera? Thanks again for making such a thoughtful and well presented video. It was fun to watch! 👍🏻😊🏆
@EverydayTechTV Жыл бұрын
A camera field monitor is just a fancy way of saying "External Monitor for your camera" 😂 As far as if I think the iPad is the way to go, it's hard to say. Since you don't have an iPad, maybe getting an external monitor will be better. I like this solution because I already had all the parts, iPad, capture card, cables, etc). For you, getting an external monitor will cost you $99-$170 depending on the size and quality you want to get. If you are starting from scratch, this solution can get pricey. A compatible iPad and capture card will definitely put you over the top.
@animaldonut Жыл бұрын
@@EverydayTechTV Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I think if I decide to get an iPad soon, then I will use your approach. Otherwise, I might just buy the less expensive external monitor and go with that. I’m going to subscribe to your channel now! 🏆😊

With a field monitor, you can adjust camera stuff tho. Can you via this setup? And do you like your field monitor? Which one is it? I want for shooting viewing not webcam if that makes sense.
@EverydayTechTV10 ай бұрын
Makes total sense. You can't adjust the camera settings. Most fields monitors I think cannot adjust camera settings anyway. It would have to be a specific monitor for a specific camera. I hope that makes sense. The field monitor that I do have is the Feelworld T7. It's a 7" monitor. I think it's a great monitor. If you're looking for something a bit smaller a portable, I would maybe get the Viltrox DC-550.

@@EverydayTechTV if you had to pick, and you worked from a studio, so not on the go, would you do a field monitor or the capture card? By control, I mean more to focus peek and stuff like that. Thanks.
@EverydayTechTV10 ай бұрын
Between the capture card and field monitor... I think they are totally different types of products for different use cases. It really depends on your workflow and what you are trying to get done. Part of the purpose of using the iPad as a field monitor is to utilize what I already have and also to be able to utilize the larger screen of the iPad. If you are really needing a field monitor for recording and you need other things like focus peaking, zebras, etc... then I would look for a field monitor that has it. The Feelworld T7 I believe has some of those features but you can definitely find some other monitors that work well. This solution definitely doesn't have those features. It's just to view the picture.

Yup.. that is correct. If you use an HDMI to USB-C cable, the iPad thinks you're trying to connect your iPad to an external monitor to display the contents of the iPad. You need the capture card to bring the signal into your iPad, instead of out of your iPad. I hope that makes sense.
