Sandra invites the audience to confront and reconsider societal norms around the female body and its natural processes through participatory drawing exercises and provocative art. By sharing her personal journey and works that utilize unconventional materials like bodily fluids, she highlights the power of art to challenge shame and promote open dialogue about taboo subjects. Originally from the vibrant streets of Madrid, Spain, Sandra Bejarano's artistic adventure began with a short-term Erasmus course in Munich, only to transform into an extraordinary 11-year journey in the world of creativity. Her innate curiosity, fueled by a fascination with anatomy, theatre, and organic materials, has been the compass guiding her artistic exploration.
For Sandra, the essence of art lies in crafting something profoundly original, a journey that has always been marked by her unyielding spirit of experimentation. Her artistic palette extends far beyond convention, often delving into unconventional materials and themes. The core of her work is like a living entity, evolving and transforming over time, bearing an emotional and intimate charge.
Sandra's art is nothing short of a revelation, and it has cast a unique spell on the contemporary art world. It's a testament to her innovative spirit and an embodiment of her boundless passion for the arts. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

9:50 I have long wondered Why a tooth can be in a mouth and “part of” the body and person; only to have it extracted, removed from the mouth and given a label as “Hazardous Bio-Waste.” It’s beyond mere saliva and blood, for ordinary dental examination or restorative care may provide consequent contact of dental personnel with those bodily fluids alongside the tooth itself. And the same holds for head hair, facial hair, and nails; on the body they are acceptable, even “beautiful,” but immediately after disconnection from the host via scissors, razor, clippers or file…and they are extraneous, possibly repellant… In combing my cats I go from admiring their soft, shiny, warm and “cat-like” fur…to accumulations in a comb, clumps of fur on the floor, my lap, my arm… And I see that cast-off fur as waste to be swept up and discarded just minutes since I was striking it and pondering if I should knit their shed hair into a hat… Does this topic make anyone else think of the past as merely the present that was the future??
