Glad it was helpful! The apps I show in this video are Sublime Text, Byword, and Marked 2. But the great thing about plain text is you can use whatever you want. In other videos, I've just used TextEdit, which comes free with the Mac.

I will check them out. Everything works except for the last bit of your video - that is when I preview the markdown, the citation does not convert at all - there is also nothing under the reference heading. I am using markdownpad 2 (the free version). I suspect this issue is related to markdownpad 2. update: Yes, I can confirm that your method works with Rmarkdown. It renders beautifully. So my take is that the problem lies with the markdownpad software. Perhaps I should get the paid version. Anyway, please do more videos!

Good to hear! In order to convert the citations, you need to convert the document using Pandoc. I cover that in the following video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hGSUdpKEj76Eh7s.

Hello Nicholas, I have only just seen this video after more than a year of you making it. Thank you so much for this video again, I had already given up on my hopes of ever using Zotero as my research assistant until I followed your steps to get my zotero working and also installed better biblatex. However, your video showed mainly using pandoc, what if I have an already existing latex document and want to integrate the new bib file i created from zotero? Do I manually insert the citation keys for each entry I want to reference? because I am not very familiar with pandoc. Thank you..

Hi Maryam. Glad the video was helpful. If you're writing in LaTeX, go to preferences in Zotero. First select "Better BibLaTex". Under "Citation Keys", select "LaTeX" as your QuickCopy format. Next, go to "Export", and select "Better BibTeX Citation Key Quick Copy" for your default format. Now you can select an item, hit cmd + shift + C, and it will copy the citation to your clipboard. If you're working on a Mac, you can also add a keyboard shortcut. See my video on AppleScript for all the details. Go LaTeX! And good luck with your project!

Sure. The great thing about writing in plain text is that it will work with any writing app. Typora included.

@@NicholasCifuentesGoodbody Same problem with me. I followed the instructions in the video, but the metadata didn't show up in the references section at the bottom. I am using Typora on macOS Catalina. Anyway thanks for the fantastic tutorial!

This is not pratical. Papers as a magic tool to do auto formating. I think zotero has zotpick. But that do i know, i am just exploring this to use other programs than word
