A naturally occuring example of The Al Baydha Project's water system, which has the potential to save the Hijaz's long term freshwater problems.

Even further you can plant lots of desert trees, like desert figs desert olives and local acacia tree which can support a healthy ecosystem and they are very resistant to drought.

Coming from india, the first time I realized how special a river is , was when I saw the Nile in Egypt flowing through a desert landscape

I was shocked to hear that in Hinduism the Ganga and Yamuna are considered sacred given how mistreated they have been when I saw them. I sincerely hope that attitudes change much like you're own, my friend.

Need to look into planting grasses with long roots and trees. The grasses will actually send water to the Aquaphor deep in the ground.Trees and grasses will also slow evaporation.

The main problem isn't evaporation. It's flash flooding. The water quickly runs into the ocean without having a chance to sink into the ground.

@@rhoddryice5412 goats are one of the most common reasons for desertification around the world. From the Middle East, through Greece and you finish with China. They eat absolutely everything and even unearth plants. Entire countries have been desertified from the Holocene on by bad grazing of bigger stocks than the vegetation can sustain. Goats are extremely difficult to be managed, especially with the knowledge of modern farmers. Better avoid them when possible.

Keep up the green work brothers. My rainfall is less than 5 inches a year most of the time, so I know how important holding water back is for changing the ecology of an area. It's amazing how much of a change can be accomplished with just a little water a day.

Al Baydha project location: 21°03'05.44" N 39°54'10.87" E - it is extremely hard to find without these exact coordinates. You can follow the site's progress using Google Earth, and witness the transformation of what was a wasteland.

There is one mistake in the video. Saudi-Arabia is not the only country without rivers, but the biggest country without rivers.

Really making a difference. Are there not ancient dried river beds that can run with water again once you have more systems like yours in place? Water in the ground and new forests growing in the highlands?

They need to make a synthetic root system to cote the hills with so when it rains it traps the water and drip feeds it . It should be embedded with seeds so foliage roots out of it and roots develop binding to the rocks and leaving mulch then animals will come back and spread manure and urine. This will trap the water when it rains and drip feed it and the organic material will wash down repopulating the lower slopes. It should be made of straw like a mat or grid with some organic fertiliser
