I've tried both the CHDK downloads and run into a black screen and blinking green light. Anyone have a solution?

Nvm i got it working. My firmware and camera model didn't match the stable releases so I had to download an alpha version for a newer model.

Click on link in Vid Description > In the CHDK dropdown near the top of the page, click DOWNLOADS > In the table of contents click on 4.4 BACKUP AUTOBUILDS > Under GET CHDK, under CHOOSE BRANCH, make sure DEVELOPMENT / UNSTABLE is selected > Under Model Family, select POWERSHOT G > G7 X MARK II > Then you select the build that corresponds with your Canon Firmware Version. That should get you the right alpha/unstable build for your G7X Mk. II. Hope this helps!

What's the capture cards purpose in getting the Mark 2 to work with OBS? I only ask because I don't own an capture card but I have a top end beasty PC and have no problems streaming games @ 1920x1080p at 60FPS so I'd rather not go purchase a capture card if it doesn't have anything to do with the Mark 2.

Usually the mark 2 doesn’t appear as a source, if it’s working for you then by all means don’t buy a capture card, but for me on my max & most others the capture card is the only way to to get the mark 2 to work as a source.

Goated, didnt want a camera hanging off my monitor so I figured grab a capture card and a wire and set it up, dead sat there staring at all the on screen display stuff defeated and you popped up as a saving grace 🤞🏽

Yeah, you need to use a dummy battery, it’s a battery you can plug in for continuous use. I put a link to one in the description 🤝🏾

Thank you for the tutorial! unfortunately i tried this method but when updating the firmware it got stuck and I had to remove the battery for it to return to normal. I tried the other methods of installing CHDK (STICK and CHIMP) and both software says my model is unsupported (firmware 1.00 rev 3.00) ;-;

Ok follow up I realise I could update the firmware from 1.0.0 to 1.1.0 from the canon website, now the CHDK installation works I updated the firmware to 1.1.0.0 and had to download CHDK 1.10B instead

Hey amazing video. Thank you for explaining it and figuring out this issue. I followed all the steps but I’m stuck at the upgrade. I got the option for the firmware upgrade but after I press ok the screen goes black and nothing happens. Any idea of what should I do to see the firmware upgrade “loading”.

That might mean u have the wrong software versions, make sure you had downloaded 1.01A and if you did then redo everything with 1.01B

Id say try 101a version again then, even when you pressed okay did it go completely blank, or back to the no image screen & did you try pressing the wifi button after?

After pressing ok the screen goes black and all camera buttons are unresponsive including the wifi one. The only thing I see happening with the black screen is the led next to the menu button is flashing green. The only way for me to turn on the camera again or using any button is by removing the battery. Something is not allowing the firmware upgrade to proceed, I'm going back and forward with the version a and b and using an original canon battery @@DonlifeZ

How do you plug the G7X Mark II into the capture card? I dont get it. Why cant you just connect the camera via a USB into the computer? So you plug the G7X Mark II into the Elgato Capture? I'm using the Elgato to capture my PS4 gameplay though.

The computer wont recognize the g7x as a source as it doesn’t have the software to be compatible with a computer. You’re going to have to get another capture card if you want to use them both

It's officially supported by Canons tool called " EOS Webcam Utility". No hack should be necessary for the mark iii.
