Using Car Audio System as Speakers for Baofeng Radio

Demonstration of plugging your Baofeng radio into your vehicle's car audio system.
Equipment Used in Video:
Baofeng BF-F9V2+
2016 Nissan Frontier with stock audio system
Kenwood KMC-45 Speaker Microphone
General Notes:
Most car audio systems have a 3.5mm stereo socket as an Auxiliary Input
Baofeng radios and speaker microphones have a 2.5mm stereo socket for plugging in a speaker or microphone
After plugging the Baofeng in, you may need to select the appropriate input source on your car stereo
Adjust the volume on the Baofeng to about half way to full. Then adjust the car audio's volume as necessary. You may need to experiment with volume settings on the Baofeng and your car's audio system.
Some cut outs in audio in the vehicle were due to long distance to the local NOAA station and being inside a vehicle.

Thank you for posting this! I’m going to a drive-in concert soon where we’ll be tuning in using radios, but my car radio’s antenna hasn’t been working. But I have a Baofeng and an aux cable so, thanks to you, I have a solution!

FYI, if you're in a bind for time, Walmart and Best Buy frequently have a 2.5mm to 3.5 mm adapter, usually in a set of adapters

just to be certain, the 2.5mm side that goes into the baofeng is a trs (tip, ring, sleeve) and not a trrs? Want to make sure because i have read that trrs won't work apparently. thank you for the video.

On this style Baofeng radio, both connectors are TRS. (Also make sure what your vehicle's audio system is set up for) The Baofeng UV-3R does use TRRS, but you don't see them often. Some Baofeng also use a Motorola style connector. I use Miklor.com website for pinout diagram reference

Can you use dslr type of microphones? Like rode video mic Go? Stereo mic or mono? Can you use only one of the ports or both must be used? If you put only speaker or only mic. Or both must be used simulateneously? Because there are two ports and most of the mics/headsets are combos. You should plug a mic so the speaker jack could work / should put speaker jack so the mic can work? Can they work independantly? Because you can have very good headsets so you can listen fm radio and dont want mic or can have external mic and use internal speakers.

Sorry I missed this comment! Yes, you can plug into only one port. Whichever device is plugged in will operate, and the unused port's function will continue to work on the radio
