Thanks for sharing your experience using the CASTILE soap. I've been using only CASTILE soap for over three years now on face, body, hair and I also have it at every sink for hand washing. I've always clarified my rinse with ACV and water in a spray bottle that's kept in the shower. I must tell everyone that the Almond and the Citrus are great for anytime of the day, but for me, I USED THE LAVENDAR one morning and I remained crawled up in my recliner ALL DAY, and I got absolutely nothing done that day. It's so relaxing🛏, so I recommend the LAVENDER to be used at night if you may have sleep issues and need some help relaxing. I'm The PEPPERMINT is very invigorating and is great for hair washing but be careful around the eyes, and that's for all of the fragrances. It's the one I keep at my kitchen sink for handwashing and knocks out all the cooking scents on my hands. Again, thanks for sharing and for letting the world see your beautiful hair.

I’ve got the Cove, unscented Castile soap and it comes with instructions on how to use it for different things. For shampoo it says to mix 2 tbsp of the soap with 1 cup distilled water and follow it with an acidic rinse such as 1 part lemon or apple cider vinegar to 8 parts water for best results.

Due to the process of liquifying soap, the Baby bar soap is less alkaline and lathers better in the hands b4 applying to hair….I find the lather of the bar soap better …and takes less soap. If people are using the liquid heavy enough to create a regular lather, that’s way too much and will not rinse out well

Your video is the only video I could find that got straight to the point or really even mentioned about the need to possibly rinse with vinegar. A lot of other videos came off as more marketing the soap or just about a personal opinion and not about an actual advice video and what to do. They didn't tell you what to do with it and what to expect. That's ok but I really needed to know details like what went wrong and not just what went right. So thank you. I think people worry with the public and feel they have to always stay positive but if we don't mention what went wrong then we can't learn from it and help others not make the same mistakes or avoid the same negative experiences whatever they may be. I may have to rinse with vinegar and use more than just the soap. I just got Dr. Bronner's Lavender Castile Soap and some hair oil yesterday but thank goodness I already have some apple cider vinegar in my home so I'll put it in a spray bottle or something to rinse with it afterwards. Again thank you for sharing your experiences. Oh and your hair does look very healthy and normal as if you don't use something different from commercial products. I truly mean this compliment sincerely.

In my experience I tried it and whenever I didn't use acv my hair was pretty bad (looked pretty bad for like 1 1/2 months unless I washed it every 2nd day) oily and clumpy and it would still look dirty but with acv it helped but wasn't enough so what I did is instead of doing more parts water to vinegar ratio I just did half vinegar half water, sometimes 3 parts vinegar to 1 part water helped me a ton especially when it was super greasy at the roots- I didn't put it straight on the ends. The acv makes it feel like legit conditioner it makes your hair feel super smooth, I put it on the parts most oily like my crown and mid back of my head but I use about your entire "ketchup" bottle though and I've also tried white distilled vinegar and it works as well for me. However I think it depends on how much hair you have and thickness... Also brushing it before I went in the shower and not letting it dry while tucked in a ponytail or braid helped me out a lot.

@Chris Williams no you shouldn't, if you need to wash your hair every day because it's too oily you need a medicated shampoo. The hair has oils that protect your hair and washing it every day strips it of nutrients and makes it brittle and dry

you're not really supposed to wash your hair every day, that build up in your hair is the strong castile soap reacting with hard water deposits if you dilute the soap more and wash your hair once or twice a week you won't need the vinegar

I only washed my hair once or twice a week and used the vinegar to rinse and it was still really difficult to comb or brush and was oily. I could not figure out how to keep it from making my hair oily (and I have dry hair). I diluted it quite a bit and that helped some. I use the soap for a body wash and for hand washing too.

@@Elizabeth-tb5oh Hmmm. . .this could be for a number of reasons. You could be transitioning or it could also be your water's ph. If you don't already have a shower filter please get one! It will help so much! Also, make sure to use a clarifying shampoo with sulfates before using the Dr. Bronners. If you're using a vinegar rinse you may need to experiment with the ph that is best for your hair and scalp. I dilute my acv until I get a PH of 4 so I use 2 oz. Of organic ACV to 14 oz. Of filtered water. Also, the Dr. Bronners website has some trouble shooting tips for using their soap as shampoo. If you've got more questions let me know. 🥰

I'm looking to use Dr. Bronner's Castile liquid soap in a DIY shampoo concoction. I bought all the necessary ingredients, then upon further research learned that it's really not good to use a Castile soap shampoo, which as a pH of 9+ and then use an ACV rinse with a pH about 3. I've read that this drastic change in pH can have negative effects on your hair in the long run. Even using a high pH shampoo without the subsequent ACV rinse is bad. So my question for you is do you know of any shampoo recipes using your soap that have a pH of at least around 8 or lower so we're not damaging our hair?

cartergirl3of3, thanks for the comment. I don't know of any shampoo recipes that include Dr. Bronner's Castile soap that have a pH level of 8 or lower. I did find a few pH balanced shampoo recipes online at the following sites: helloglow.co/hair-ph-balanced-shampoo/ www.thankyourbody.com/ph-balanced-shampoo-recipe/ I have not tried either of these recipes, so I cannot speak to how well they work, but they may be a little more along the lines of what you are looking for. The good news is if you don't end up using the Dr. Bronner's or ACV to wash your hair, you can still use both of them for a number of other things : ) I hope you find something that works for you! I have seen or read dozens of testimonials about Dr. Bronner and ACV with people saying "it's awful for a bit but just stick with it." I stuck with it for about 8 weeks and my hair was still disgusting. The top half of my hair was packed with grease and the bottom half was as crunchy as straw. (Yes, I did it correctly and yes I played around with the ratios so it wasn't too harsh.) I'm shocked that no one seems to be writing or videoing about a bad experience with this regimen so I'm putting this story here. That way, people who maybe aren't having a good experience won't feel so alone and will know that "sticking with it" might not be the answer for everyone. I ended up switching to a sulfate-free/paraben-free drug store shampoo and conditioner and my hair is 1000x better.

Yes I had the same experience. It was pretty difficult. Hard to comb or brush when wet. I did use white vinegar and that did help it. I diluted the soap too because full strength made it oily. The vinegar cut the oil but not completely. So I went back to regular shampoo but I dilute it a lot and it lasts longer and works well. I love Castile liquid soap. I feel I just didn’t find the right combination so that it would work well.

I recommend washing the scalp with just Castile soap and rinsing only the ends of the hair with apple cider vinegar. ACV activates as a moisturizer so you don’t want to put it directly onto your scalp just through the ends of your hair where you need moisture, sort of like a hair conditioner.

Apple cider vinegar burns the hair follicles and dries out the hair. See Fr. Eric Berg video son hair. It happened to me. Castille soap and marseille soap is good alone for the hair. It will not smell any wax any more even if you leave it unwashed one time for some time.

@user-bp4qv4bz1d, I'm always so curious to know about the type of water everyone has, but it often seems to go unmentioned. If you have soft water that doesn't get all the strange stuff hard water contains, you're likely to have a much easier time with a transition like this. Because of the particles in hard water - it can have a reaction with these basic (rather than acidic, which is why the ACV rinse makes your hair feel so much better usually) kinds of soap. I have not tried diluting some Castile soap to try as a much cheaper alternative to shampoo, but I have hard water so it may go as badly as you're describing. There is a lot of hair speculation and science behind all these theories and ideas on what should and shouldn't be used for cleaning your hair. My current thoughts about using Castile soap as shampoo are: Always dilute. Yes, the shower can help with that, but it's highly concentrated stuff otherwise (and absolutely NASTY to get in your eyes without any form of dilution, fair warning). Maybe invest in a water filter either for your shower if you have hard water. Try using the new method every other time with a typical shampoo to see if there are many differences between the washes. All in all, do what helps you live life well. If you hate the thought of how much plastic is being thrown away every year, much less every day, then trying a solution like this is great because it has so many other ways to be used! Just use it as hand soap for half a year, diluting it as necessary. Hope this helps, but no worries if you find that it doesn't. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I know this is an older comment but it sounds like your ratios are off or perhaps you need to use the Dr. Bronner's conditioning rinse. Some people's hair is very greasy when they use the regular liquid Dr. Bronner's undiluted.

It also helps to work up a lather in your palms b4 shampoo applying to wet hair. Actually I have used the Baby bar by making the lather ( works best with distilled water) in my palms…..that has probably been my best result with Bronners for makes a nice lather . I am using that more…it also seems to rinse out easier

@@mongamonga1477 honestly I've been using clarifying clay mixes as a cleanser. I mix shikakai, brahmi, and aztec secert with a couple of drops of tea tree and peppermint oil I add (extra virgin olive oil and organic coconut oil my hair tense to be on the dryer side) but powders are naturally a little more drying I think it's important to add as little or as much oil as you need depending on your hair type. I mix it with organic apple cider vinegar and water. It is a little messy but it's kind of like a home made shampoo/cleaner. If I'm pressed for time I use Trader Joe's tea tree shampoo it's relatively inexpensive and it smells great. As try the apple cider vinegar rinse mix acv with half water and half acv get a bottle with a nostle in which you can penetrate the scalp and massage it in your hair for a few minutes before rinsing. If you are having problems with your scalp the dermotologist may be able to prescribe medication. A few years ago I went to the demo because I had issues the dandruff and hair was coming out they prescribed a topical(I don't remember the name of it) I took it for 1 or 2 months and it went away...in reflection i was under a lot of stress and I honestly think that was the root cause during that time... But I mainly use the powder mix or trader Joes shampoo now. I hope this helps Happy hair journey💕

Stephanie Chan, the Castile soap definitly feels more runny than store bought shampoo, so I like to keep it in an old pump soap bottle that way I can easily control how much I use (usually about 2 pumps worth… which is not very much). I then rinse it out with water, then I squirt a little of the apple cider vinegar in my hair/all over my head (about 1 tablespoon total) and rinse that out with water too. After that, I'm done : ) Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

I use the bars and stay away from the liquid soaps. I’m having lots of success. I’ve even tried Kirk’s bar which I think I like even better than bronner’s. I do a splash of acv/ 16oz of cold water rinse. My water at home is hard. I’ve had zero issues. My hair is a little longer than yours. I don’t wash everyday. Once to twice a week is good. If my ends get dry, I use a little argon oil on them. Sometimes if I get sweaty, I’ll just rinse my hair out with water.

It can at first I think but if you dilute the vinegar and then rinse it out you should be good for the most part! If you don't want to mess with it though you can also use a diluted lemon juice rinse or purchase the citrus rinse off of Dr. Bronner's website. 😊

I ruined some of my hair follicles with apple cider vinegar and got dry air om it. Some don't grow in the neck, became thin and frizzy and I unerstood it was the A C V after seing the hair videos by Dr. Eric Berg. I wanted to avoid all chemicals in shampoos and I have now washed my hair with Syrian aleppo soap wich is just like castille or marseiile soap. As my hair has become so dry, I waited now two weeks to wash it, so I can combe it and it don't smell any wax. My brushes get something to clean off them but it don't smell anything. I guess it is soap, or comes from my hair and dust. I feel this is so much better and I will not go back to schampoos and balsam. The hair gets a bit strange feel to it, but it is also not like before as it is so dry after the appla vinegar, so I will just continue, and I think it don't matter that it feels a bit different. What matters, is it looks good and it smells good, never any strange or bad odor. I think my hair will become better now.

Im a week or so in, i use 1:1 ratio of vinegar and water after which leaves my hair super soft and tangle free. BUT my hair is greasy, my scalp and the hair on the crown seems pretty decent but mid to ends is oily and stringy. I dont understand...not sure how much longer I can keep this up for.

There r many different kinds of C. Soap, which one is best to use on thick course hair? ( I hv the lavender bottle).There's purple bottles, blue bottles etc.

Victoria Golden, I've used both the Dr. Bronner's Lavender and the Dr. Bronner's Baby Unscented with the vinegar rinse. I still notice a lavender smell even when I use the vinegar to rinse my hair. I also use the 4-in-1 Lavender Organic Sugar Soap on occasion, and I rinse my hair with the vinegar then too -- I still notice the lavender smell : ) I don't use a lot of the vinegar either. This won’t work for everyone because coconut oil in the castile oil might effect it depending on your hair type / genetics. Coconut oil has a history of having an opposite moisture effect. Although I have to say I tried this with the ACV and my hair is extremely greasy and dry.. but also seemingly thicker if that makes sense? I’m going to try it tomorrow with just the castile soap maybe it will be better. I do think other shampoo methods are healthier than the traditional oil stripping shampoos though. Also if you put it on your skin DILUTE IT. It will burn / irritate you

This is day 2 of me trying Castile Soap and I ended up in tears. I couldn't even run my hand through my hair because it would pull and stick and hurt so bad. I broke down and rewashed my hair with my old shampoo hoping it would smooth out. I'm glad I found your video. It is encouraging. I will try again tomorrow with diluted castile soap with acv rinse. I am allergic to 95% of soaps so I need to find something I can use regularly without breaking out after every shower.

Update. It's been 1 month since I've been using old castile and it's working so far. I found its best to dilute the soap and rinse it quickly. Do not let it sit in your hair. I then rinse my hair with acv very quickly after. The acv is also diluted as that saves me money and cuts down on how strong the smell is. So far, so good. It doesn't hurt after it's dry. About a day after the wash is when it feels best

Update: Its been 4 months. The soap still sucks honestly. If I don't dilute the soap and rinse it out immediately, it stays in my hair and makes it look all greasy for a few days. The ACV rinse does help but not as well as I wish it did.

If you have color treated hair, you have to add oils and teas, and dilute to keep your color from fading!

Your hair is very pretty! I have very thin, fine, post menopausal hair and am looking to get away from sulfites which points me toward castile soap. I have recently begun reverse shampooing, using conditioner first followed by shampoo and I also made my own dry shampoo to use in between washing days. It contains cocoa powder and smells yummy! I know apple cider vinegar is great for hair and I also use it some to cut any build up from shampoos out of my hair. Thank you for the video!! Great ideas!

Caution with the lavender and other scents …I had eye allergies with the lavender Maybe the almond is the most mild scent.I also had some difficulty with using the Bronners for shampooing. I had the best results with diluting it a bit and giving my hair a pre rinse of distilled water b4 applying the soap…..and an end rinse with ACV ( about 2 tbsp to a quart of lukewarm water bottles and following that with a quick cool water rinse. I love Bronner Baby and Bronners Baby Sugar soap…for everything else. A stumbled onto warming up just a bit of the Baby Magic Balm in my palms…just rubbing it into my palms…and then giving my hair a little run through …it’s important to warm it up in your hands and go scant….it adds a nice shine and tames any fly aways

Aakanksha Dharmale, sometimes there is a slight vinegar smell that fades away… I don't seem to notice it too much and neither does my husband. I also do not use a lot of vinegar when rinsing my hair -- a quick squirt seems to be enough to do the trick. Hope that helps!

You rinse out the soap with water and then you do the acv rinse. It acts as a conditioner, your hairs ph goes up when you wash it so you bring it back down with the acv. It leaves the hair soft and detangled when it dries.

Wanda Santillo, have you tried using the vinegar after using the Castile soap? That may help. Also, I know some people like to put a little jojoba oil on their scalp/by their roots after washing their hair for extra moisture. That may help too. It's okay if this technique does not work for you -- Castile soap is not for everyone (my sister recently stopped washing her hair like this because it was not working for her)!
