@Mayara & Omar & Friends Have you used a Pentium 4 in the modern day? A low power i3 is several times stronger than a P4 with just one of their cores.
@dankrakes46483 жыл бұрын
@Mayara & Omar & Friends Are you using a hard drive instead of an SSD by any chance? That may be why your device is so slow. If you switch to an SSD it should be much faster. From what I can tell you have a 4th gen i3, so if you have at least 4gb of ram it should work fine if you've got an SSD. The integrated GPU is indeed crap and you can't do anything about it though.

Great review! It's always good to see these older Windows XP and earlier based laptops get a second life with more retro based tasks, as some pieces of software simply will not run on anything newer. Also, which SSD bracket do you recommend for older IDE hard drives? I have a few IDE hard drives that I might want to convert to SSD so it might come in useful to buy some laptop IDE to SSD converters (better than picking up used IDE hard drives, and IDE to SATA will not fit).

These machines are very similar to the HP ZV/ZX5000 laptops. There were Intel/ATI and AMD/Nvidia versions of both these Compaq machines and the HP machines too. The Intel versions of the HP ZV5000 laptops would have the Mobility Radeon 9000 IGP in them. The ZX version, however were far different. They would come with either a 64MB Radeon 9200 or a 64MB Radeon 9600 or if you were really wanting some power, you could also get them with a 128MB Radeon 9600. I believe the highest GPU the Intel Compaq R3000s got was the 64MB Radeon 9200. I have the recovery discs for the ZV/ZX5000. I'm not sure if they would work on the Compaq machines though. And yes, that 2nd fan only runs when the CPU gets hot enough.
