Fantastic demo. Tip: fusible webbing is a perfect way to hold the pieces together. Once aligned, cut a piece and put under your fold, then press. You are then ready to open up and sew.

Great method for maybe an heirloom quilt or something to be cherished by family so buying the extra fabric would be worth it.. I make a lot of quilts for donation, and was wondering what the general rule of thumb would be if you don't have enough yardage to have the top/bottom running in the correct direction as in your video. Would you just run them clockwise around the entire panel or centre just so they are consistent? (all borders had to be cut in the same direction) If you do the sides as usual which would face correctly, but your ends would be running in different directions.

I might pick a fabric that wasn’t directional so I didn’t have to worry about that. But I really like your idea of running the borders clockwise around the center. Putting semi solid blocks in the corners for cornerstones would look nice.

But aren't your side strip pattern (the first 2 cuts you made) now sitting sideways as opposed to up and down so the bear is north south as opposed to laying east west if you know what i mean lol?

Usually if the fabric is printed directionally, it goes the length of the fabric. You make your first two cuts for the top and bottom borders of your quilt going width of the fabric. I usually buy an extra 3/8 of a yard to be able to do that. Then you make two length of fabric cuts for the side borders. Use the remaining fabric to match the design with your original top and bottom pieces that you cut first. Have fun!
