here in germany we have a saying for skipping work which is "blau machen", as you might've guessed it translates to "making blue"and this saying comes from the medieval times you've mentioned. Because back then when you were someone who was dying clothes blue you basically did nothing but prepare the Bucket with Dyer's Woad, piss in it every so often and lay back the whole day :D Must've been a great feeling back then that the royals were wearing stuff that was soaked in your piss for days on end :D

+Cody'sLab I use my pee as fertelizer. It is very dilluted in water so it does'nt really smell. Also pee is just human waste materials, when you think about it is not as gross as it sounds. There is very little bacteria in there and in small ammounts it works great with plants.

I know this video has some time behind it, but I just wanted to let everyone know that the leaves and roots are used in Chinese medicine as an antiviral, so it's good to help fight cold and flu. I tracked down some plants last summer and collected a bunch of seeds. I'm growing some of them deliberately for the dye and medicinal uses.. this video will help me this coming summer. Thanks!

Very cool! Other people have probably mentioned this already: to get a more intense final color, it helps to soak the fabric in a mordant (made with alum, tannin, or iron) before putting the fabric in the dye. Overall I love the video - ancient dye processed with accessible modern materials !
