Hi Al. Greetings from a soggy and cold Barnsley, UK. Really love the work you are doing, wish I could be doing likewise. I have read, and been told that one of the easier ways of clearing and restoring rough pasture or woodland is to run goats on a smallish area then move them to an adjacent area. Then immediately follow with pigs and poultry on the vacated area. The goats get the brambles, grass and weeds. The pigs dig out and eat the roots and the poultry get the seeds, bugs and pests and their eggs. The pigs also turn in the manure. Then you just remove the rocks and any other rubbish / debris and reseed or plant as needed.

Morning, busy day! , btw Gina, you want to keep the colour in your beets , don’t peel them . Simply roast in skins, cut leaves off , leave 1 1/2” to 2” of stem and tap root. I did mine for 50-60 min in 400 degree oven. When knife goes easily into centre of beets. Remove let cool so you can handle them. Take paper towel and wipe off skin!!! Then you can quickly chop up with rest of veggies. Also you can corsely chop the beet green and then you can either sweat, boil or fry . Add butter salt pepper and a hint of nutmeg!!! Yummmm !!! But it still looks good !

Just a tip: leave the beet skins on to roast. When the beets are cool enough to handle, use a paper towel to rub off the skins. Its lightly abrasive texture will make this messy job easier while keeping your cutting board (almost) stain-free.

About the bees. You might want to take a frame of capped brood from the big hive, shake off the bees and give it to the small hive, I've been taught that the queen may lay more if there are more bees in the hive to support the brood. This might give that hive the boost it needs. Of course, only if there is plenty to spare in the bigger hive. Then again, patience might be all that is needed.

Your hive can create their own queen if they have eggs or young larvae, but going from egg to a new worker bee emerging is like 52 days. If you need new Saskatraz queen you can probably get one from Suddabee's Honey in Morristown, VT which probably isn't far from where you bought the nucs.

I am not a bee keeper, but I watch tons of videos. Everyone does things a bit differently. I may be wrong, but Dr. Leo Sharashkin seems to know his stuff when it comes to horizontal hives. Ask him what he thinks about their behavior. One thing he told Doug of Doug and Stacy was to keep the hives farther apart. Keep the entrance away from wind (leeward). And another person recommended partial shade for the hives to thrive. As for partitioning and all that I have no idea. Those are absolutely my favorite type of hive though. Good luck. Love the clover fields. I was waiting for them to flower!

#HopeForHope Fingers crossed she's pregnant. Our family love beets, and one of my late mother's favourite summer sandwiches was sliced pickled beets with salt and pepper. It's a sandwich I still go for on hot days, and it brings back many a childhood memory. That pasture is starting to look so different. The clover is taking over in so many places now, and given that when you tried seeding it you had such problems with rain washing everything away, it's really responding well to the animals being there. Lovely to see the boys with their new family. It's so nice that they're going together, and I'm sure whichever one stays whole will carry on producing some great goats in the future.

When was the last time you sharpened the mower blades and cleaned under the mower? I mow several large lawns and one park and have found that the crowd builds up fast under my mower and before I know it I no longer have the necessary space for the grass to stand up and be cut and sharpening and balancing the blades also gives me a cleaner cut and reduces wear and tear on my mower's bearings. Just some friendly advice. Also, it's time to start scaling up your operation. I like how your creating "automatic" type feeder and watering systems which also improves the efficiency of your operation. God is surely blessing you all.
