Nothing nicer than that first mouthful of freshly cut salad, or herbs, or vegetables. A salad dressing I make is a base of oil and vinegar (your preferred type), salt and pepper, then with added garlic and honey. Sometimes thinking outside the box can save so much money, so that attachment for $1 is a great idea. Lovely to see NYC finally being able to move, and here's hoping that the chickens soon get right into that compost pile. I suspect once the edges start collapsing they'll be all over the thing. Mix it up and pour it on. So delicious! If you use the emersion blender, leave the zest out and just stir it in at the end, otherwise you might lose the texture of the zest. That was a nifty trick with the greenhouse. Have a blessed day, yourself!!

In my home orchard in SE Georgia, the plums are always my favorite. My latest ripening tree is about 2/3rds done. I've got about seven gallons in the freezer. I will start using them to make sauces and vinegaretts and the like when the peppers start ripening in larger numbers. I still have tons of plum jam from last year. The first pear tree will ripen pears in early July and the last one will ripen pears in mid to late August. The early bloomers are having a poor season on account of January being too warm triggering blooming and February being too cold and wet for pollinators to do their job. But I have great crops on the later blooming varieties. I usually end up canning about 20 or 30 gallons of pears and use them all up before the next season. My first fig tree will ripen figs in July. The two ever baring trees will ripen a crop in August and keep ripening figs until the frost gets them in late November. The vegetable garden is a year round thing here. I just ripped out my rutabagas today. I had let them stay longer than I ordinarily would because a friend gave me some very little superhot pepper plants that can't take full strength Georgia sun when they are small. The bolting rutabaga plants gave them some shad until they were big enough to take the afternoon sun. The hot and sumperhot peppers are always the most fun vegetables to grow even if they aren't exactly my favorite to eat. Having said that, I admit that a habanero whether fresh in season or pickled out of season goes into something I eat just about every other day. I've already gotten an eggplant. I have a huge blueberry crop this year but as always the birds get most of them before they are ripe enough for me to want to bather with them. Blueberries would be almost pointless on account of the birds were it not for the fact that they help keep the birds off the blackberries and plums. I planted my blackberry patches last year. I got a few this year, and should get a big crop next year. The birds peck at them some, but they don't like them near as much as they do the blueberries. What used to be my favorite but now kind of messes with my blood sugar are the muscadine grapes. They ripen in august and will also be used to make hot sauces with the peppers. My persimmon trees are still small, but it looks like I'm going to get a few this year. They ripen in late August and November. My last fruit crop are the satsuma oranges and lemons. They start ripening in November and will hang on the tree until I manage to eat them all or until our first freeze going below 26F which usually happens towards the end of January if it happens at all.

Gina, the basic rule of thumb is a 3 to 1 oil to vinegar ratio for dressings. Salt and pepper help but if it’s still bland, there’s probably not enough vinegar. Experiment with different oils and vinegars and seasonings too but remember, the stronger the oil (like evoo) then you may have to adjust the amount of vinegar. Add grained mustard or grated cheese or fruit /citrus chunks to it too or whatever you find you like. (We love sliced tangerine segments and sliced almonds with evoo and a balsamic reduction) That’s the fun in it, you get to try whatever you have around... I mix mine after adding my fav seasonings then keep it in the sealed jar in the fridge to chill while dinners being made. Then I just have one of the kids shake it for a good minute and a half before adding to the salad at the table.😉 I was wondering when you’d get a hook for that side roll Al. Sounds like you’ll need to keep that battery well charged, that drill struggled a bit. Is it set to one or two on speed/torque? Lower the better...You may end up smoking it putting that much of a strain on it otherwise, so watch it closely for it heating up... I know it’s not perfect, but a corded drill may be a better option. Anyway, the greenhouse plants are looking healthier by the day, and those salad greens are looking tasty. Have you considered adding a few dwarf fruit trees inside the greenhouse yet? Skys the limit brother. Even if your rewards are only half as great as your efforts have been, you guys will never go hungry! We’re pulling for you! ✌🏼

Hi there. First of all I love your videos.😊 Here is my standard dressing recipe: • 1 part oil • 2 parts acid • Some salt • And sweetener For the sweetener you can use honey, Marple syrup or normal sugar. For the acid I love to use white balsamic vinegar, but other vinegar or some citric acid like lemon or orange is also grate. I normally also add yogurt or sour cream or something alike. If i won't add yogurt, I increase the amount of oil. Last but not least I add fresh, frozen or dried herbs and or mustard. I personally love the combination of honey, mustard and dill the most. Greetings from Germany. 👋

For a white garlic dressing. Equal amounts creme fraiche and yoghurt mixed with fresh garlic, oregano, thyme, parsley, white pepper, salt, sugar. You can if you want add a squeeze of lemmon or fresh grated apples. The salt and sugar is to balance the flavours. Only very little is required. You can use garlic cuttings instead of the bulb like you cut the onion. Thyme is optional but works very well with Lamb.
@maryblaylock65454 жыл бұрын
For salads breaking up chive blossoms for a mild onion flavor is great. I add either lemon pepper or Old Bay Seasoning (also good in soups and on meats)to my salad dressings. Another tip is to make your dressing with blueberry or raspberry juice(or syrup) for a nice twist. The Greeks and Italians moisten dry bread with a little water and mostly salad dressing. You don't want it dripping wet, just nicely moist. Mix it in with your greens. That's a good addition to a big salad lunch! Another dried herb to mix in is dill which is also fantastic with deviled eggs or tuna fish salad with a soup spoon full of pickle relish mixed in. Well have fun concocting new wild and wonderful salads!

In my family we had a stand by dressing: 1/3 vinegar, 2/3 oil, garlic powder or finely minced garlic, dry mustard powder, salt or Lawrey`s seasoned salt, black pepper, little sugar and you can add a bit of water if you want to thin it out. The only thing I remember measuring is the dry mustard, I wouldn't use more than 1/2 tsp. You could also just use a little prepared mustard instead of the dry.

Rub the inside of bowl with a cut clove of garlic, I worked in an Italian Restaurant that's the way they did it.. add grilled head of garlic done while cooking burgers, the head should be nice and squishy, mild flavor easy to incorporate in dressing. Our go-to salad dressing is a 1:1 mix of apple cider vinegar and olive oil mixed with some crushed red pepper flakes, thyme, dried dill weed, and powdered mustard or mustard seeds. It tastes better after sitting a while- we make it a day ahead for best flavor. Tried using mustard oil instead, but that was a bit too strong. If you like creamy dressings, pickup either a can of powdered milk or preferably a can of powdered buttermilk and add a spoonful. Powdered buttermilk keeps for years if kept cool.
@terribethreed84644 жыл бұрын
You should try Southern Wilted Lettuce Salad. If I remember right my Mom used large Red Romaine Lettuce & you make the dressing out of a few tablespoons of hot bacon grease mixed with sugar & apple cider vinegar & salt & pepper to taste. You just mix it up right in the skillet you fry your bacon in & when you whisk up the ingredients in you also pick up all those delicious bits of flavor as you de glaze the skillet. Then you pour it slowly over your lettuce & toss. That's why it's called Wilted Lettuce Salad because the hot dressing wilts some of the lettuce (like greens) but it still is a crunchy salad. You can add croutons to it also. I always liked adding halved cherry tomatoes to it to.

1, A refreshing dressing is Avocado Oil lemon juice & crushed garlic.. 2, Wash then slice lemons remove pips & liquidise the whole lemon skin included you may need to add a little water to this if it’s to thick this can be used as above if making a larger batch OR with other added herbs & oil as an overnight marinade.. 3, Place on a low heat to begin the liquidised lemons add a little water at a time so you can stir easily then mix some Arrowroot to add to the lemons to make a lemon sauce to use with salads or can be used with chicken, duck, stir fry or to pour over puddings cakes take your pick..

AL and all, your homestead continues to amaze us. Now with all the milk are you able to save the surplus for cheese, ice cream and baking. Have you tried to freeze or can any of the milk? God continue to keep you safe.

Your videos are a way for me to decompress after work every day. My husband and I want to buy land and start a farm here soon, but for now, it’s almost therapy for us to watch your vlogs ❤️

Nice to see the drill idea worked....and a such a savings as well. I am glad you were able to get New Yolk City moved to the new location. It was beginning to look like it was never going to get dry enough. The hamburgers looked delicious m-m-m-. Have a Blessed day.

Add herbs to your dressing, I use basil and garlic powder and onion powder and any others you like. If fresh, even better! Enjoy seeing all you do!

Olive oil, lemon juice, sweet mustard, water, honey, garlic, salt and pepper. Another favorite is sour cream, lemon juice, garlic, salt and pepper. Add water if you find it too thick. This one is also very good when you add fresch herbs. Enjoy.
