Thank you for teaching these skills that are sadly being lost. Give a big hug to little apprentice from North Carolina, USA!

"Waste not, want not!" It took me years to appreciate the truth of that old saying. There is much of what we trap and shoot that could, with some learning, be eaten.

Amazing rabbit catching skills! I have never seen this technique before, and it's interesting that the rabbit hops out before the ferret. Clever indeed! I'm a total beginner when it comes to skinny and processing any kind of meat, and I've considered starting with rabbits because they're small, and would give me more confidence. Thanks for your practical butchering lessons. 👏

Yes it's a pretty fun past time, rabbit would be a great starting point for processing. Good luck. Cheers👍

Great vid. I use the second technique you showed with a slight variation of standing on front legs and pulling the skin up and vice versa standing on the back legs. No ferrets though, just a 22.

😊👍 For my grandparents rabbits were a staple meal during the war years. For me as a kid it was a skill my grandparents wanted me to know even though i was a girl and my job would be to cook i had to know how to catch the dinner too. My uncle had ferrets and used them I wasnt allowed near them. I showed my kids these skills and sadly I cant show my grandkids because family farm was sold, and we dont know anyone with farm land anymore. We trapped rabbits, traps are now illegal to use. How things change. Thanks for this video.

No problems, yep I've done all that. Unfortunately it's a skill that will probably be lost through the ages.

Oh, I forgot to ask one more thing. Where are the glands located on sheep? Usually, I just share a lamb leg or two with friends, but I never thought about removing glands before sharing the meat. Thanks for any advice.
@butcherbennytee19835 ай бұрын
I'll get a video up soon to point out all the glands that need to be removed👍

Just subscribed to your channel mate , as fellow ferreting man and hunter this is one of the best video I’ve seen in a long time. Yes very tutorial for new comers, my method of cleaning is the cut half way down on the rabbits back quick and easy. The heads and livers etc my dog and ferrets have. Oh I see you don’t use ferret locators ! Well to be honest i don’t never have. Till the next one .

We don’t get rabbits like that anymore in the south east. In the 80’s and 90’s you could ferret 100 easy, now there’s not even warrens.
