Using Math To Get More Crossy Road Coins

While Crossy Road is an endless game, there is a definitive goal - to unlock all of the characters. Many of those characters are unlocked through the Prize Machine. To spin the prize machine, coins are required.
Therefore, in order to unlock Crossy Road characters sooner, it could help to collect coins faster. There's specifically an in-app purchase to do just that - The Piggy Bank. But, what if there was another way? What if it was possible to collect coins 50% faster or even 100% faster, without having to spend real world money?
Well, certain Crossy Road characters do have an advantage with collecting coins. But until I actually did the math, I didn't realize the dramatic difference. One character has an extreme advantage. Other characters are not as lucky. This video looks at sixteen different Crossy Road characters, to see which one can collect more coins on average.

Yo. I just wanted to tell, buying the piggy bank character only gives 1000 Crossy coins and then gives the red coins… there’s no 2 times all the coins… I mean, the yellow coin will give only 1 coin per pick and no 2 coins count per pick…. Or I just have a glitch

I don't have the Piggy Bank character, but the banner says “2x Coin Rewards Forever!” So, if yellow coins are still worth one, how much is a red coin worth? Also, how frequently are red coins appearing? Depending on the frequency that red coins appear, and how much red coins are worth, it could be double… less than double… or more than double.

@@PhoticsTVred coins appear rarely as that of the yellow coin and are worth 5 coins… if I collect 20 yellow coin, red coins will appear 3 or 4 times… but red coins appear in harder places and sometimes far less… (to be clear- red coin=5 and yellow coin=1) you calculated the thing like 150000 to 300000… I’m in serious doubt.

@@rajveerjagdale So, if it is 4 red coins for every 20 yellow coins… that's 4 x 5 = 20… which would be around double. From the way you describe it though, it sounds less. So here's what I said in the video… 7:18 - _“If I bought the Piggy Bank character too, would that be over 300,000 coins? Probably not, there's more to it than that.”_ It looks like might have you found a "more to it" part… are red coins appearing as frequently as they should? (And if they're harder to get, that's a problem too.) In other words, do Red coins appear instead of… or in addition to… yellow coins? The Cheerleader, according to the data shown in this video, was averaging around 19 coins per 150 rows. So, now that you have the Piggy Bank unlocked, is it still ~19 Yellow Coins and ~4 Red Coins, or is it ~15 Yellow Coins and 5 Red Coins? 🤔

I doubt Hipster Whale meant for the Cheerleader to have such a distinct advantage in collecting coins. Although, there was a recent Crossy Road update with fixes - but the Cheerleader still seems to be great at collecting coins.

Love your channel, nice statistical analysis! A few weeks ago I actually noticed that the cheerleader was really fast at getting coins, so I’m happy I was using the best character for it! I also reroll the prize machine using the video ads which helped me get characters much faster (it’s just a bit annoying to turn video ads back on and off)

Ah, I don't know much about how ads work on Crossy Road. I mainly play on Apple TV. And since that doesn't have a web browser, that's a problem for advertisers. Maybe it's a special arrangement with Apple, but that version doesn't have ads. Although, for unlocking Token-based characters, I'm thinking ads might be very useful. I've noticed that it got a lot tougher in the Pecking Order lately. I haven't seen first place in quite some time. So if Hipster Whale launches a new Token character, which seems quite possible, I'm not sure if I can unlock it right away. 😄

Not all of the characters were tested, but I don't know which other Crossy Road character has the same advantage of the Cheerleader - three empty rows appearing frequently. Well, the rows are not totally empty, the Cheerleader Pyramid appears in those three rows, but they don't block coins from spawning.

Was the bashy beaver game mode already out when this video was made? It’s quite different from the normal characters but feels like that’s the fastest way to farm coins for me (even tho I had to spend 10k coins to unlock it first)

The Bashy Beaver was around. That character wasn't considered since it's different game mode. It didn't occur to me to use the Bashy Beaver as a coin farmer. Also, it is difficult to get to row 150. So, I just played a few games with the Bashy Beaver. There were a lot of coins. But if I focus on collecting coins, I'm not collecting enough fish to maintain speed. 😄 I think a better way to calculate the averages is coins per minute, not coins per row. That's ultimately the goal anyway… get as many coins as fast as possible.

I'm surprised that the Toothbrush was so low. Perhaps it was just five bad runs. There can be a lot of coins appearing on the bathroom rows, but sometimes those coins are tough to reach.

I really want to test this with lots more characters, so i was wondering how you find each coin per row. Do you just divide the average by 100? That was just confusing because you said you had to get anything over 150 so it would mean that dividing by 100 wouldnt work.

There's a follow-up video, where I showed how I created the spreadsheet… kzbin.info/www/bejne/epLShKFnlM6deaM Basically, I stopped playing at row 150 and the coins collected during that game is the number used for the calculations. The reason for the row limit is to not factor in difficulty. An alternative measure could simply be coins collected over a certain amount of time… like five or ten minutes. That could be averaged to return a coins per minute. Yet, I feel like the Cheerleader would still win in that scenario, as each human pyramid adds several rows without danger.

Hey! I think there ist a trick to get way more coins: When the medivel update was lounched I got every charakter, but without the healer, so now I can claim a free gift and doing a new mission for free coins every 3 h. I think when you unlocked every charakter, you can only get coins by collecting or playing the Pecing Order. So my tipp for new updates: Don't get every charakter to get the free gifts. 😄

I have Android Robot which Photics TV doesn't have (he's on Apple), he won't get Piggy Bank since it has some different color coins and he has 1 Festive & 1 Spooky that I don't have (I checked his list as it scrolled by on a live stream; he removes lives once over). My Windows desktop version has 81,612 coins & 160/160. They said they will never update the Windows one.

I have to wonder if the cheerleader getting more coins was hipster whale offering a little ... comedic social commentary. The stereotypical cheerleader is the rich girl that gets everything she wants. The cheerleader in Crossyroad gets twice the coins everyone else does... Also I did my own tests and got the same results. Mine were time based, how many coins in one minute? Cheerleader averaged right around 21 every time, all other characters I tried were between 8 and 12. Found this video looking to see if anyone else had noticed.

I don't know if Cheerleaders are typically rich girls. (Otherwise, why are there Cheerleader scholarships?) But even if the Cheerleader is rich in Crossy Road, the medical bills must be astronomical. She's one of my most played characters with 1226 runs. That's a lot of car hits and river dunks. 😄 Seriously, it's probably because of her level design. Whenever the cheerleader pyramid shows up, it's three empty rows. That's a big open area where coins can spawn. Although, maybe she intentionally has a rich level. This video is getting close to the one year anniversary, but Hipster Whale hasn't nerfed the Cheerleader. They've probably seen this video. So, either they don't mind that she can collect extra coins or they did it on purpose.

The footage shown in this video is mainly from an Apple TV. I haven't used a Windows computer recently - probably not since I started playing Crossy Road. I can play the game on my M1 MacBook, as there's the option to play the iPad version of the game on Apple Silicon. Perhaps it's a good idea to contact Hipster Whale directly. Maybe they have a suggestion for you. If not, it lets them know there's interest in a Windows version of the game.

Ha ha… brave! 😎 With over 300 characters, that's too much randomness. I have tried random with my top 12 though. That was kinda neat. But, I'm still mainly using the Cheerleader. Just this morning I was thinking too deeply about that. With 1124 runs, she's been hit by a lot of cars. I was imagining her in a hospital (in a full body cast) saying, “Please Mike, pick someone else!” …and then the Moon Rock, with 1470 runs, all cracked and shattered says, “Not me!”

Here are some run numbers… 19,13,14,16,16 So, Daddy is not bad, but not Cheerleader level. The problem with Daddy is that his area is tougher and water rows slow things down. The Cheerleader is just an easier character to play to 150. There were many failed attempts to reach row 150 with Daddy. But if you want some variety, instead of playing the Cheerleader all the time, Daddy has fun background music. 😄

This video is more about coin farming. It shows what I learned about the characters. I prefer cooperative games. It’s too bad Crossy Road Castle is still an Apple Arcade exclusive. That’s a great team game. But lately, it’s really hard to get a random four-player game going. The cooperative mode in Crossy Road (on Apple TV) is also a lot of fun. (Although, even that can be competitive.) Many games have leaderboards about getting the top score. What if videos games focused more on working together? 🤔

I'm not sure what happened, but I suspect it wasn't intentional. It's the design of the Cheerleader. The human pyramids need three clear rows, which makes her level easier and seems to create a greater opportunity for coins to appears.

Hey, Apple's “Translate” app worked offline. It says that you said, “My desktop version is 18,000 yuan.” Perhaps that last word is suppose to be… coins? 🐧🎉 But as mentioned in this video, unlocking all of the new “Medieval” characters was expensive. So, if a new area launches soon, and it takes even more coins to unlock those new characters, then the information in this video might be helpful to you. The Crossy Road Prize Machine gets more stingy as you unlock more characters.
