To help clear up the water, I would suggest intentionally planting the whole area around it, maybe seeding it with dutch white clover and some low-growing/moisture-tolerant grasses(I love sweet grass) , forbs(I like herbs/greens like mint, purslane, chicory, dandelion, dill, fennel, bocking comfrey, oregano, thyme, etc) or shrubs(elderberry, clumping bamboo). Radishes and leaf lettuces grow amazingly fast and although annuals, they can give you a quick coverage before your perennials get established. You can probably find bulk dutch white clover seed at your local nursery sold by the pound. You can have a secret food/herb garden around your pond and hardly anyone will realize it! That will help keep runoff from carrying mud into the pond which makes it murky. One of the main principals of permaculture is to always keep the bare earth covered with something: plants, leaves, wood chips, chop-and-drop, etc. Once you have it seeded and have some coverage, there are some things you can apply to the pond that will clear up the existing suspended mud: gypsum, or use calcium hydroxide(higher ph, you have to be careful/slow with it if you already have a fish population otherwise it will "ph shock" the fish/frogs/crawfish/etc and kill them). Both those will combine with the suspended mud and cause it to precipitate as a white coating on the pond bottom. Check with a pond expert for the best treatment for your situation. I think this process is called floculation.

I’m hoping to get some grass planted next month. And a regeneration zone to clarify the water, as well. Just haven’t gotten it done yet. Soon.

Interesting. I’m thinking of experimenting with a settling tank to clear up our pond. We used to use Weir systems at work to remove sediments from water. Thanks for sharing. We probably won’t be at the picnic. The kids have their state competition for 4H shooting sports.

I’m hoping to be there. This is starting to get very pregnant and the hospital is starting to fill up again with Covid patients. We will see! I will definitely miss you, friends.

We swim in it like this. No concern. I don’t like it…but when I start getting my regeneration zone going and grass/vegetation planted around it, it should clear up some.
