i think a flaw with this system is that it doesn't highlight the cubers that don't happen to break WR/CRs, but are still insanely good. Maybe Bofan Zhang isn't the best candidate since he specialises in only 2 (or maybe 3) events, but he had an insane year in 2023, getting top 10 in Worlds finals, a top 15 3x3 average, top 20 2x2 average, while he's a 2021 ID. Just the fact that he's in the same country as Yiheng snubbed him out of getting more recognition.

In that sense, I think this system is good for determining first place but is flawed for the rest of the rankings

tymon was definitely player of the year in 2021-2022. he defined what was possible in 3x3 and won 75% of Monkey League seasons up to that point.
@EliteCubingAlliance
@EliteCubingAlliance 11 ай бұрын
No way. Max was definitely better. We are discussing official comps in all events, and Max wins hands down. Tymon is really good, but Max owns him. The only reason why Tymon was able to get near him is because Poland didn't have a huge lockdown like America did, but even with that limitation, Max tied him for the MVP award. With their 3x3 results, it is arguable that Tymon is better, but even then, it is really close. The big difference is big cubes. Since you mentioned 2021-2022, we should look at it. Max Park, even though America was overcoming lockdown, still managed to get 3 3x3 WRs, 7 4x4 WRs, 4 5x5 WRs, 4 6x6 WRs, 2 7x7 WRs, and 4 OH WRs. In total, that is 24 WRs. To put that in perspective, in 2021 and 2022, Max Park quadrupled Tymon's total WRs, or you can say he octupled Tymon's records in 2021 and 2022. If you want more proof, Max Park also destroys Tymon in rankings. The only stat where Tymon wins is 3x3 ao5 in 2021, where Tymon has 1 official average faster than Max, and in 2022 Max and Tymon were tied for 3x3 average. But the proof is in big cubes. Max park consistently was beating Tymon by 4-5 official averages in big cubes in 2021, and in 2022 he was consistently beating Tymon by upwards of 20 official averages. Lastly, if you took Max's 7x7 time of that year (1:35.68), and you added his top 3 3x3 times of that year to that time (3.63, 4.09, 4.18) and you take the difference from Tymon's time, you get that Max would still have 1.5 seconds left over.

@@ClockSolverfor 4x4 5x5 6x6 and 7x7, max is by far the best and it isnt close. He underperformed at worlds 2023 and still won 5 and 7 and 3rd in 4, and 1st in 3x3. So i think for now we can assert max is better
@ClockSolver
@ClockSolver 11 ай бұрын
@@kingeddiam2543 not yet, tymon is way more consistent that max, max won worlds due to tymon being way too stressed out. and weve seen tymon improving rapidly with zbll after worlds

@@ClockSolver I realised I mistyped, I meant for 4x4 and up it isnt close, whoops. I can agree that tymon is better for 3x3 as he is more consistent, but 4x4 and up is just max as far as I can tell. 4x4 and 5x5 is a bit more iffy, but the fact its still over a second (on 4x4!!!) is just insane, we might never see this level of dominance again once the age of max park is over.

I think it would be nice to balance the gap between WR and CR for every year. Some CRs are so close to WRs while there are also moments when CRs are not even NRs in the top 20 cubing countries

This video manage to justify why some cubers like Feliks, Max are the most dominant in their era but actually missed good cubers like Nahm who had his first WR after 12 years and some good all rounders who don’t have WRs.

You have to dedicate a ridiculous amount of time to maintaining and improving when you're at that level, and Feliks is 28 working a full time job, he simply can't put in as much time as younger cubers like Max, Tymon or Yiheng

Feliks is almost 30 and he has a full time job. He has a very busy life and he just can't commit as much to cubing. Even if he was to stay at the same speed, other people might catch up. This has actually happened to a lot of world class cubers in the past where there was a point where they made little progress and eventually fell off the rankings. However Feliks was able to maintain world class and his high rankings through all these years which is insane. He actually still is world class now and he's still top 20 for 3x3 and top 10 for big cubes so he's still doing well. He is also getting sub 6 averages from time to time. Overall, I'd just say life got in the way. In the netflix documentary, Max's father says that at that age you have other things to focus on like paying bills, buying a house, finding a partner... and therefore you just don't have that much time to cube. It doesn't matter how Feliks is doing now because he is still known as the GOAT and is the only person to have over 100 cubing world records with an outstanding 121 world records over the years. He dominated for an entire decade and you should take a look at the world record history for 3x3 and 5x5 as well as other events but especially these 2. It's absolutely insane
