The abrasion and low frequency impact properties of P.O.R.15 are suitable for a truck bed, but here those will only hold it together until it sags enough for the blades to rip it off and shred it. Red iron oxide has low tensile, shear and compression strength. It's not enough to block moisture from a rusted steel surface. when it's on the bottom of a thin metal deck subjected to high frequency vibration and high velocity sharp impacts. Any coating applied to a bottom surface will pull the sealer off the weaker oxide beneath it. The majority of the rust needs to be sandblasted off and/or completely converted to a material physically strong enough to withstand the vibration and impact forces applied. Using P.O.R.15 on top of THAT would provide added impact resistance.

I recently did this to my deck. I also put new blades on and man it mows so much smoother now. No more vibration. I must've had unbalanced blades. Glad I did it. You deck looks great.

Thanks - great video. Short, sweet, clear and concise. Appreciate highlighting the area coverage in the video (1x 42" deck to small can). This will help determine the amount needed a 46" and 54" zero turns, plus 21" push mower decks. Here in Virginia, the grass seems to always be wet (morning dew/humidity), so I use high lift blades for the discharge. In your update, can you cover 1) What is your normal cutting environment? 2) Do you cut in hot dry or moist humid conditions? 3) was the discharge volume impacted? 4) Did the grass clump up more with the POR15? 5) was the deck easier to clean? Pressure wash? Scrape? and finally, 6) the durability of the product as a whole (chips/flakes, etc). Thanks again!!

Thanks for the feedback! It all started when I needed to replace a spindle, and I figured while the deck was off and it needed painting anyway, that I would go ahead and undercoat the deck.. The deck on my old Craftsman mower rusted out. And it was always kept inside, but the grass here is wet and it can be humid.. That is why I ended up buying this John Deere 10 years ago. I was pleased that there was no real rust under the deck, but we will see how well it holds up, because I run over a lot of different things like rocks and sticks.. So it will be the ultimate test! If I'm satisfied, I will use it on my pickup truck to undercoat the frame. But I might take it to a body shop for that, because there is such a long process and my health isn't that good..

Por15 is great for rust prevention. But, don't expect it to prevent grass clippings build-up. Better to use it on a vehicle

i did my deck month ago,follwoed the full prepp process+ 2 layers por 15 , but it didnt last long at all, only in 2 weeks,the por15 coated outter ring under the deck is "sanded" off into bare metal,but the rest of coating it remains around the spindles, it kinda make sense the blade keeps throwing grass and sand/small stones onto the outter ring area.

Yup, it is the ultimate torture test for sure! If it becomes a flop on my end, I'll try some heavy duty bed liner next time.. I have learned it is best to leave some rust, you just basically wire brush it and wash it.. It didn't seem to spread as good in the places I totally removed the rust.. If I'm impressed enough, then I'll probably do my truck frame in it next..

@@FlickScreen yeah,iv been googled around and found the truth that por15 only do well on cleaned but rusty surface, it doesnt stick well onto baremetal or painted surface even its well prepared. The grass usually buildup around the spindle part so its often rusty and por15 likes it,also that part has much less sanding effect from the blades thats why por stays

Yup I done a little experimenting and found that to be the truth. When you put it on a painted surface it will beed up and run off like water.. This is my first time dealing with por15, so it will be interesting come next spring..

Should have used a metal prep prior to clean it and reform the rust prior to painting. Also this product needs to be top coated.

Any update end of season look at mower deck? Wondering how p.o.r 15 held up.

Not at the moment. We're right at the end of mowing season where I live. We get a lot of one particular weed here, I have no clue what they are called but they can be more dense than regular grass. Lord willing, I'll probably mow one last time for this season Monday, I'm planning on dropping the deck as low as it can go..

In about a month, I wanted to give it exactly one year, so if there is any rust it will be shown. I didn't clean the deck at the end of the mowing season because I wanted to torture test it as much as possible. I'm actually kinda looking forward to seeing it for myself, if I'm impressed I might do the frame of my truck in it. This time I have much better camera equipment than just a Gopro and head mount. I did film a video on how to remove the deck, but the audio turned out horrible and unusable, I was pretty upset because it took extra time and effort.

You mow over sand, or clay?

I live out in the country, so I run over alot of different things, especially twigs and small tree limbs. I have a crush and run driveway, and it kicks up small rocks. Along with the deck, I put brand new mulching blades on it. I was considering doing the video early due to requests, then my hip went out to the point I could barely walk. I think that I pulled something or irritated my bursitis where I cleaned up a tree limb after tropical storm Elsa, I think that I talked about it in one of my vlogs. It took three steroid shots to calm it down. But since I decided to give it the full year, I'm now able to make a more high quality video, since I have upgraded my camera equipment since then. I didn't even have a proper tripod in the first video, lol But if it holds up to my abuse and hard use it can handle anything just about..
