Great content! Been a watcher, and user of Neem for a while. The smell however is awful for indoor use! :D Now, with Peppermint and Rosemary mixed in with the Neem oil from your shop, the spray is fantastic smelling. Thank you! Scale falls right off with a light brushing after 2 days. No more alcohol and rubbing the scale off, even after using just Neem oil by itself. One item I might suggest: Flairosol brand spray bottles. They are used in barber and beauty salons, and the spray is the most "atomized" I have yet to come across. This helps tremendously when spraying plants indoors to reduce over spray and dripping onto your floors.

Gary Pilarchik (The Rusted Garden) tomatoes love basil & you can plant basil in companion planting. But I find the essential oil to work better. Improves flavor & deterrent to insects. I had hornworms but after spraying the basil I didn’t see anymore of them.

This was interesting. I have not used peppermint or rosemary oils. Since I live in a rental, I can't bring in or build raised beds; but, I do have fabric pots which I did my gardening in. I'm already planning on how I will do things a bit different for next year. Like, making some kind of trellis for the cucumbers to climb on and using a better post for the tomato plant: or, maybe just pushing it in a bit deeper. I used a bamboo post this year. It's leaning quite a bit now. I want to grow potatoes next year. The seed potatoes that I had this year didn't do anything. Our weather finally seems to be cooling down and I want to plant radishes and carrots before the frost hits.

I want to thank you. The neem oil that I got from you killed those mealy bugs that were killing a lot of my ornamental and vegetable plants. I tried a lot of things that didn't work! My pest management company suggested that I get rid of the food source and the ants and mealy bugs would leave. The food source is my garden......Other neem oils didn't work. I'm guessing it's that azadirachtin ingredient. Mealy bugs going away and the food source is now safe. Thanks again. I'll be ordering more soon!☺🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋

Hi I grow a variety of Kalo or Taro. I'm assuming many of my kalo are suffering from leaf blight. My first crop wasn't affected but that was only 5 plants. I know have 40 plants. Thank you for providing these videos, I watched your other videos with different mixes to use. I'm going with the Hydrogen Peroxide and water. I bought a Neem Oil from Home Depot in a spray bottle. I need to check for the ingredient you mentioned that pretty much is just oil vs what gets rid of pests too. Thank you again.

The Neem from HD probably is a hydrophobic extract. Heavily soak a few Taro with the h202 and test it. You always want to test new spray but I suspect the taro leaves can take the h202. Good luck. No one can tell you whether or not a self created mixture will or will not harm your specific plant. It's like asking if a specific detergent will discolor a specific fabric. Professionals will tell you to test a small area with your creation a couple of days/ weeks/months prior to the occurrence of the end product and when it's due to produce/be used.

Also good success with neem oil...so wondering why not just mix all three at one time and just try to not only repel, but kill any chewers that might be around, as well as provide the anti-fungal properties of neem? Thanks for the video!! I'm so happy to find a solution other than neem oil because I just can't stand the smell. I was wondering if this would work on the soil too? I have an issue with spider mites overwintering in my greenhouse, so I was going to pull everything out and use a spray to hopefully treat my beds got see if that helps for this next spring. Hi Gary. Regarding sprays (essential oils, or even things like BT and Neem), I always wonder about the practical aspect of how that applies to a larger garden like yours. The costs of spraying all those plants *regularly* must get pretty high, especially for the hobbyist/home grower/non-commercial outfit. What's your tip/recommendation? Thanks!

So for my size garden the 1 gallon peppermint oil spray covers it all. That 2 teaspoons. A 2 ounce bottle goes a long way. H202 is another great spray and it is inexpensive. Neem is used on my leafy greens. Again not much. So it isnt so much cost but time sticking to a routine and spraying. Good luck. Have you thought about getting some Society Garlic plants? They have a very strong natural garlic smell themselves (not so unpleasant to us humans, unless you handle the leaves). Ours other plants next to them seem to be pest free.

Hi..I just thought I'd chime in. I had terrible worms and black spot disease on my apple and pear trees. I mulched them heavy this year and both problems have disappeared.. who knew.. I'm grateful

Sorry that should have said wouldnt use it on basil. Just dont over load basil with sprays. It all depends on what the bugs are if you were to keep spraying. I havent had those. The peppermint oil should irritate them and prevent them. I use a hydrogen peroxide spray on them when my house plants get them it. So what you really want instead of soap is glycerine. Would that be correct? You get what you are using the soap for, but you don't have to deal with the suds.

So, Gary or anyone, if I spray my squash plants with peppermint and/or rosemary oil as in the video this will confuse the squash vine borer (as they are attracted by the scent of the squash plant) and possibly reduce their damage??? Will these oils help control SVB attack?

@@THERUSTEDGARDEN the main reason I asked is rosemary is Neuro toxic to most bugs example fleas. I use a rosemary shampoo on my dog for this reason. So I didn't know if bees would be effected. I know they love the blooms on rosemary though.
