Won't your phone connect to a public wifi internet connection? If so, there's no SIM card required in the phone for that. The mobile phone/cell data that is available for use from your SIM card, is not a wifi connection - it is mobile phone/cell data & is not a wifi connection. And that cell data from the SIM card will obviously only work if that SIM card is inserted in the phone. But a wifi connection does not require a SIM card to be in the phone.

Me too. I miss the old days of 2G,3G,and even in the pre-smartphone days when we didn't have to possess and have the apps for iphone, Android,and Apple. Android smartphones that aren't degoogled smartphones, don't have ASOP,and have F-droid are subject to privacy issues whenever they're anywhere online at the internet. Especially when any smartphone has all those numbers on them. Each and every one of them. Examples : IMSI / IMEI : IMSI stands for International Mobile Subscription Identification. IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identification. MAC Address, whether by wi-fi or by your own VPN. Stands for Mobile Access Control. Declaration Bluetooth Address. ICC ID number. ESN's. Stand for electronic serial number(s). Besides your phone number, including with the area code,if you are on Facebook Live, Instagram,Pinterest, TikTok,whatever whatever you do, DON'T use your REAL name. DON'T post your real identity on the web. DON'T post your real address. And DON'T ever use the TOR network if you have NO idea what you're doing. Going back to the 90's, with proprietary CDMA phones, that you had to change the phone, everytime you changed to cellular provider. That's what 'electronic SIM' means to me.
@GUIRADE953 ай бұрын
Exactly. That's what it was, and is.
@lyfandeth6 күн бұрын
Back in the 90's CDMA meant you had a Verizon phone, IIRC. Changing to any other carrier meant getting a TDMA phone. It had nothing to do with SIM cards, they were two different systems, like AM vs FM radio. LTE is a sort of hybrid that enables the features of both. SOME factory sold phones, like Google and Samsung, and SOME Apple direct phones, will work on all networks. But if you buy a typical phone from Verizon (unlocked but not factory unlocked) it can still only be used on Verizon. The carriers and MVNOs can all fiddle with locking, but only manufacturer direct fully compatible phones can be used on all networks. (Unless the carrier refuses to service a phone they didn't sell.) Nice, huh?

Only to the towers you could still get a internet connection via any Wi-Fi because that's just a separate antenna system searching for Wi-Fi signal so if you don't have a SIM card you won't get a direct internet connection like a data and you won't be able to make/receive incoming and outgoing calls

Maybe don't use the family plan phone. Buy another cell phone-- never insert smh card. Just set up though wifi Other than that take the phone you have, remove smh card and reset the phone to clear memory (yea annoying but if you want privacy it's worth it) Good luck I never installed the sim on my new phone (hooray 🎉)

Why you have phone with sim? Maybe take it out...put it aside for now. Now test it out...if you like how it works, then leave it like that. Throw the sim in the ol" junk drawer. Other than that...well you know (But I'd personally never ever put a sim back in a phone. Shuddering)

They did say it was an "official" phone - so maybe it is one they need to have for their work, & provided to them by their employer - in which case it probably won't be easy to get rid of either the phone handset, or the SIM card it contains - which may be the property of the employer.

Most VoIP has issues with Short messages used for MFA. If this is solved I will be interested.

I prefer a sim card. I tend to buy and swap my phones.

Look guys why not just use two way quality analogue radios. Im pretty certain the Comms can be encrypted if there is in interest to develop such a system in the interest of privacy and security. Kick those bastards out and if enough people buy the radios you'll naturally increase your network. Range maybe the next issue but this too can be improved. As long as cell phones are around expect total invasion of everything. Encrypted APRS text messaging via a radio network.
