When watching Rob's videos (as I have for quite a few years), I often think of the famous quote in the movie "MOZART" when Austrian Emperor Joseph II comments on a recent score that Mozart has composed: "Too many notes." I'm overwhelmed by Rob's comprehensive explanations and information. I would wish that Rob would employ more examples of everyday life of most users. (For example), it's now becoming more and more common for restaurants ask visitors to give them a (cellphone) number by which the visitor can be notified by text that her table is ready. I am befuddled by Robs extensive explanations to be able to decide what one or two solutions would likely be the simplest one that satisfies my needs for being notified in such circumstances. Many if not most restaurants and bars in urban and suburban locations have public wifi, but many, also, don't. One more thing to recommend to Rob, I strongly recommend the use of graphics, especially diagrams, to distinguish one solution from another, or one problem from several others. Otherwise, Thank you, Rob, for your dedication to teach and give the public options. So appreciated.

The cell site network can triangulate your location a lot more accurately than "a mile or less". Because sometimes cell sites are themselves located within "a mile or less" and they need to handover calls from a moving phone to each other. Their actual accuracy for triangulating phones depends on how dense the network radio hardware happens to be. In some places, they can triangulate a phone within just a few yards. Enough accuracy to find which building, which vehicle, or which part of an intersection the phone is located in. If you live in a remote or rural area then "a mile or less" is probably still good enough to find you. If you live in a developed urban area then "within a few yards" is probably still good enough to find you.
@robbraxmantech8 ай бұрын
I disagree. A phone can self triangulate against towers and get a fairly accurate position. In fact we do that on BraxOS. In our case we use all towers regardless of carrier. But a particular carrier's towers do not have enough data to return a GPS position. Wifi triangulation is used for that. Obviously you can be tracked to a short distance like 1/4 mile in a large Stadium or Times Square but there will also be thousands of people next to you. In theory the next gen mm-Wave tech will solve this.
@yeahrightgraphics46218 ай бұрын
Wrap phone in 2 layers of Faraday cloth, or buy a Faraday cell case. Protects you from all the tracking, but of course no one can call or contact you until you take it out. But... if I want to travel somewhere, why the hell do I want the devious govt to know what I did between A and B? Also Faraday only thing so far I can see can protect against Bluetooth Meshing, if your phone does that. Rob will have more knowledgeable info on that

Only to the towers you could still get a internet connection via any Wi-Fi because that's just a separate antenna system searching for Wi-Fi signal so if you don't have a SIM card you won't get a direct internet connection like a data and you won't be able to make/receive incoming and outgoing calls

Exactly. That's what it was, and is.
@lyfandeth4 ай бұрын
Back in the 90's CDMA meant you had a Verizon phone, IIRC. Changing to any other carrier meant getting a TDMA phone. It had nothing to do with SIM cards, they were two different systems, like AM vs FM radio. LTE is a sort of hybrid that enables the features of both. SOME factory sold phones, like Google and Samsung, and SOME Apple direct phones, will work on all networks. But if you buy a typical phone from Verizon (unlocked but not factory unlocked) it can still only be used on Verizon. The carriers and MVNOs can all fiddle with locking, but only manufacturer direct fully compatible phones can be used on all networks. (Unless the carrier refuses to service a phone they didn't sell.) Nice, huh?

If one doesn't want to be found, as I don't, then we just provide the licence details of someone who isn't us. From there, I don't provide this new number to anyone. No government agencies and not even people who know me. Whej governments need a mobile number I give them one that is registered to me but I only put that sim in a separate phone very occasionally when I'm traveling miles away from where I live. I am using sim cards and not planning to switch to no sim card phones. No sim card means you can do simwapping hack on them and I dont wanna risk that. A Phone should have at least one sim cards slot.

All the cell phones I've ever used say "911 calls only" when I take out the SIM. Doesn't this mean that the phone is traceable, even without a SIM, since it is still connecting to the same towers and leaving a fingerprint?
@Vagabond_Etranger4 ай бұрын
Ed Snowden explained it best. Every 3-5 seconds, your phone pings the nearest tower with it's location & whatever else. Unless you turn it off & remove the battery. But now they've made it difficult & a pain in the rear to remove the battery, so I'm sure no one is gonna do it. Around 2005, I could easily remove my battery in 1-2 seconds, & re-install it in 2-3 seconds.

Now you turn off Bluetooth before turning off your phone or even making a call the call is the connection to the tower Bluetooth is the tracking try it just turn off your Bluetooth and watch you have tracking issues

Me too. I miss the old days of 2G,3G,and even in the pre-smartphone days when we didn't have to possess and have the apps for iphone, Android,and Apple. Android smartphones that aren't degoogled smartphones, don't have ASOP,and have F-droid are subject to privacy issues whenever they're anywhere online at the internet. Especially when any smartphone has all those numbers on them. Each and every one of them. Examples : IMSI / IMEI : IMSI stands for International Mobile Subscription Identification. IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identification. MAC Address, whether by wi-fi or by your own VPN. Stands for Mobile Access Control. Declaration Bluetooth Address. ICC ID number. ESN's. Stand for electronic serial number(s). Besides your phone number, including with the area code,if you are on Facebook Live, Instagram,Pinterest, TikTok,whatever whatever you do, DON'T use your REAL name. DON'T post your real identity on the web. DON'T post your real address. And DON'T ever use the TOR network if you have NO idea what you're doing. Don't expect privacy whenever you're using any iPhone and/or Apple smartphones.

There is a hidden second processor inside a SIM card, that has a connection to the telco, and it completely bypasses the operating system. I am suspecting that phones using an esim have that circuitry in the phone itself now, to maintain that hidden background connection.

What is the best way to work around a web site that rejects voip numbers only accepting non voip numbers?
@robbraxmantech10 күн бұрын
If they reject, then they want KYC (your ID). So you have to make a choice if that is acceptable to you. That's why they're rejecting. Google though will take Passkeys/Yubikey

Why you have phone with sim? Maybe take it out...put it aside for now. Now test it out...if you like how it works, then leave it like that. Throw the sim in the ol" junk drawer. Other than that...well you know (But I'd personally never ever put a sim back in a phone. Shuddering)
@janburn0078 ай бұрын
They did say it was an "official" phone - so maybe it is one they need to have for their work, & provided to them by their employer - in which case it probably won't be easy to get rid of either the phone handset, or the SIM card it contains - which may be the property of the employer.
