I run AI on my 7900 XTX all the time, you don't need Nvidia rocm is just fine. I appreciate you putting the info out there but we've been running our own local AI for over a year now. Still late to the game is better than absent. Oogabooga/textgen webui and automatic 1111 for stable diffusion. Better than ollama.

There are many more AI threats besides privacy and security.

As you speak of local llm, i would point you toward a mozilla initiative called llamafile which let you embark a quantized model (gguf) on a usb and autorun it in mac linux or windows (with wsl2activated) there is great futur i think of similar initiative. This is real privacy, no connection needed, just the weight file in a construct and your good to go. with a 4gb limit as windows can't run any superior size application than this 4gblimit you can embark 7B model like llava which enable vision on a ai which reside on a usb stick.. just plug and run have a nice day bro ! The intro to how neural networks work here is wrong. Each parameter does not equate to some pattern being found or embedded in the network. And neural networks are still just rule based logic, it’s just that there are far more rules and they’re not represented by traditional Boolean logic but by the factors of inputs to “neurons” and simple math done to them against the internal weights of the neurons. Neural networks are simply a bunch of trivial functions with embedded constants, set during training, which pass their output to another function in a group of functions called a layer. You could actually code this by hand, through trial and error on what the weights should be, but it would take forever, so we write fast algorithms to do it for us. It’s more or less just automated brute force coding, which can be enhanced with other methods like human feedback and a various algos to nudge things along faster.

I am more concerned still, that if the NPU does in fact talk to an external server, it could receive instructions and manipulate the local data in order to incriminate the user
