Our son Ash is non verbal, in this video I talk about why and how he uses the communication app called Proloquo2go on the Ipad. It has been a real game changer for our family and has opened up a whole new world for Ash!

My verbal, autistic son is getting Proloquo2go next week since he has selective mutism and sometimes cannot communicate his basic needs and wants. This video was very helpful as a parent getting ready to learn to use it.

Hi Becky, That’s great! I’m glad it was helpful. I’m very passionate about promoting Proloquo2go! Our other son Jet is verbal but has difficulty communicating, so we are trying to encourage him to use it. It’s so important that they are still able to express themselves even if they can say a few words!

Curious... do you use verbal language with him too, so he can interact with non-family or will he only listen/able to understand to communicate when others use the IPad? I watch Fathering Autism and they use an AAC with their daughter with Autism.

Yes we do use verbal language with Ash. He has fairly good receptive language skills most of the time. Most people will speak verbally to him. We use the Prolo some of the time to communicate to model language and also expose him to new words or words that he doesn’t use much. We find when we are out that there is so much sensory input and that speaking to him on the Prolo helps him to focus on what we are trying to say to him much better.
