Regarding Engine soot/oil stains-Diesel engines are compression spark engines vs. a gas powered vehicle, which use a spark plug. What does mean for people who don't know anything about engines? A compression style engine aka Diesel engine doesn't "warm up" the same way as gas engines do. Idling a diesel engine for long period of time doesn't allow for it reach operating temperatures, which allows the piston rings not to fully expand (which help with compression in the engine), which allows the "pushing" of engine oil and diesel fuel out the exhaust stack. To prevent this, a diesel engine needs to be "high idled", which means its running at a higher RPM then it would normally do when idle till it reaches operating temps TLDR: Your second explanation was close enough ;)

I have used old tea leaves on models. I grind the tea (by hand, as needed) into the appropriate size chunks and glue it down. I also have so many colors of tea I can do just about anything with it. Green, red, brown, tan, yellow. Basically everything other than blue and purple.

I get a lot of ground work from the end of my driveway. I shovel up several pounds of it and then put it in one of those disposable aluminum baking pans for turkeys. The next thing I do is put enough water in the pan to cover all the stuff by an inch or two. The idea is to float out all the lighter stuff like leaves, wood, litter, etc. Then I drain it an put the pan in the oven at about 350 degrees for an hour to kill anything that might be living in the dirt and to dry it out. After it cools I start sifting it using different size strainers, colanders, etc. Finally I bag it up. So I'll have a bag of very fine sand, a bag of coarse sand, a bag of small gravel, a bag of larger gravel and so forth. It's cheap, available, I can get whatever size ground work I need and it only takes maybe an hour to do the whole thing not counting the time the stuff is baking.

Outstanding model as usual. I really like your process of weathering the model. Again your personality is what separate you from the other you tubers. Your camera work and editing is to my point of view flawless. Thank you again for sharing with us. Hopefully one day you get wild and do a sci-fi type tank maybe just maybe in the GW line. I would love to see the weathering process on a tank that is not army green or grey ish. But I do realize that this might not be what you intend to on your channel.

If I may I'll add a couple of suggestions: I use diluted white glue to fix things on dioramas and models. Once dry you cannot remove it by any solvent but only mechanically. I also use a lot a variety of medical clays that come in different shades; the consistency is that of a powder a little bigger than the usual color pigment, and mixed with water, acrylic thinner or diluted white glue can produce dust, rain shades or mud respectively. HTH Cheers
