Named the show “Shogun”… But the protagonist is a British guy, and he takes up most of every episode. The show should be called “Blackthorn‘s crazy adventures in Japan.” We already saw “The Last Samurai,” FX. That’s not what we thought we were signing up for.

They've been doing a PHENOMENAL job with this series. I reread the book last summer, before I even knew they were making this. They've been so dedicated to the historical accuracy, and the results are amazing. They've even been fixing historical inaccuracies from the book in the show. Beyond that they made the show their own. For the most part, the changes they've done made sense, and the way they're giving some of the more ancillary characters from the book their own life on the screen, in a way that feels genuine. 👍

Or you can accidentally stab someone believe it or not if you hold it the wrong way. Whereas with a gun I think the safety rules are more intuitive. Particularly because we are more familiar with them now. Both are safe used properly but the sword strikes me as more dangerous to the user especially.

Also, katanas feel a lot heavier than other swords (carry more momentum) and need a bit more of training on the swordsman’s part to not loose control of the blade and hitting things and people unintentionally.
@digitaljanus2 ай бұрын
They _are_ heavier. They weigh as much as a European longsword, which is on average almost a foot longer than a katana.
@ricardodemarco34862 ай бұрын
@@digitaljanus my point about the “feel heavier” is because the center of mass on a katana is generally further from the handle than in a longsword. Katanas do not have distal taper nor pommel to counterbalance the weight of the blade, therefore more mass is located near the center of the blade rather than the handle or guard.
@gwynbleidd1917Ай бұрын
@@digitaljanuslongswords only weigh 2.5-3.5lbs, and so do katanas. An arming sword weighs only slightly less, and not even all the time. Stop propagating misinformation.

*does not apply to rapiers or small swords, which were balanced such as to be tip light for thrusting.
@gwynbleidd1917Ай бұрын
@N2theBlue1 yeah, but rapiers share the same weight averages as longswords, whereas smallswords are usually between 1-2lbs. Albeit a rapier's weight is centered towards the hilt since the hilt is complex and heavy, making most rapiers handle very nimbly.
