Named the show “Shogun”… But the protagonist is a British guy, and he takes up most of every episode. The show should be called “Blackthorn‘s crazy adventures in Japan.” We already saw “The Last Samurai,” FX. That’s not what we thought we were signing up for.

They've been doing a PHENOMENAL job with this series. I reread the book last summer, before I even knew they were making this. They've been so dedicated to the historical accuracy, and the results are amazing. They've even been fixing historical inaccuracies from the book in the show. Beyond that they made the show their own. For the most part, the changes they've done made sense, and the way they're giving some of the more ancillary characters from the book their own life on the screen, in a way that feels genuine. 👍

Either way, they *loved* their tanigashima matchlocks.

@@Ntmoffi Swords are more unsafe if you ask me in untrained hands. Hitting yourself is more likely believe it or not and you can accidentally cut other people. Or you can accidentally stab someone believe it or not if you hold it the wrong way. Whereas with a gun I think the safety rules are more intuitive. Particularly because we are more familiar with them now. Both are safe used properly but the sword strikes me as more dangerous to the user especially.

@@digitaljanus my point about the “feel heavier” is because the center of mass on a katana is generally further from the handle than in a longsword. As a collector of replica swords I can very much understand the issue! Usually when I do test cutting I'm alone but with a camera crew and others on a film set the possibility of a mishap as much higher. As long as people keep their distance it's not generally a problem but occasionally someone might lose grip on a sword and it go flying which is never a good thing
