A tip: You can look at and listen to your briefing in the briefing room instead of out in the open at the start of the mission. Just select the mission and dont hit "Ready" yet. Instead, hold TAB and you can still see all of the information for your selected mission. A few things I noticed during my own playthrough of the game in regards to realistic vs gameplay is that the unrealistic aspects can typically be divided into two categories: Gameplay Serving or Gameplay Limitations. Gameplay Serving are aspects that are unrealistic, but need to be there in order for the game to function as a game. A good examples on this mission is the radio chatter at the beginning reminding the element to remember their ROE. That chatter is really just a reminder for the players that you shouldn't just go in blasting everyone like you would a normal FPS game, rather than being a realistic depiction of actual chatter to set the mood. Another big aspect is how accurate the aimbots on the suspects are. In the gaming world, we have people who are incredibly accurate and fast paced, far more than would be realistic for any real world gunplay. In order for the game to not turn into a reaction shooter like most others, the suspects need to have an advantage in accuracy to make the players focus more on planning, teamwork, and how to actually enter and clear a room. (Though I will say it could be turned down a bit for both the friendly and hostile npcs due to how accurate they are at shooting through walls). Gameplay Limitations are aspects that, while would serve the gameplay and would be more realistic, are out of the scope of what the game devs can feasibly do within any amount of time. A good example of this would be adding an overwatch/ sniper to the team. Adding something like that would mean all of the maps so far would need to be redesigned from the ground up in order to accommodate that perspective. Windows, suspect walk patterns, AI callouts, counter snipers, decoys, an actual overwatch position, how that functions in a singleplayer and multiplayer setting, etc. would all need to be figured out and then implemented. This is a MASSIVE amount of work for a single piece of a game that already functions well (albiet, unrealistically) without it. Love hearing your expertise and perspective on this game! While actual SWAT tactics may not be as effective in this fictional game setting, it's fascinating to hear about how you would actually approach these kinds of situations. Hopefully none of us will ever have use of that knowledge, but if shit hits the fan then at least we'll know how to act to get out of the way.

Hey there Chris! You can actually listen to the briefings and 911 calls/other info before loading into the mission. There are also maps that can help (but can also be inaccurate, for instance the one for 23mb has some extra rooms marked for the server farm which arent there). This way, you dont stand around exposed, which can actually kill you on some maps.

I love missions like "23 megabytes" and "Rust Belt" because their briefings are incomplete or outright wrong (on purpose). Just to show that you cant plan everything ahead and or that intel may fail and lead you to wrong conclusions if you are not careful enough. I also find it funny how so many people in at least day1 gameplay video comments of RON 1.0 completely missed the fact that the briefing for "23 megabytes" is based on incorrect intel / assumptions, and blamed the game for being unrealistic that the streamers mom was still alive for example, completely missing the point that it was a SPOILER "swatting" which ended up not only harrasing the main suspect but also revealing other illegal activities he was connected to as well.

To those that are new and probably wondering why Chris cuffed a “downed” suspect, down doesn’t always mean out of the fight. It’s just the means of making sure to not have the suspect harm anyone by surprise because it’s possible they may feign death. I’m just a civ that’s as far as I know but I can understand the better be safe reason behind it Happy New Year Chris! Oh by the way Chris you can command complied civilians to run towards the exit and get detained by perimeter but I’m just curious would you not take the risk or say you are very confident it’s a civilian and tell them to move outside because you want to quickly move into next area eg active shooter scenario, would you have 1 man from your stack fall back with civ just in case or just radio the perimeter team “civilian coming out the 1/2/3/4 side check fire”? The same way you would call out bad guy coming out 1/2/3/4 side

@@ChrisTHECOPI think what he means is after someone surrenders, you can tell them to move (on their knees with their hands up) towards you or to a specified point so you can arrest them safely without entering the room. It just lets you have one less thing to deal with as you breach, since they could always feign surrendering. As for ordering civilians to move to the exit, afaik that's totally unrealistic and just a game mechanic to save players the trouble of having to arrest everyone themselves; though correct me if I'm wrong.
@kala178010 ай бұрын
@@DA99972 Yes, but about "run to the exit" command: I think irl you would have more than a 5 man team, so people in the next room would take care of them. However, there's the scenrio "elephant" where I would see this useful (I'm not a cop mind you) at least in game , however in real life there would be a huge risk that they run straight to the gun men while trying to find the exit but it's a bit of a "damned if you do, damned if you dont" kind of scenario. I think first time I played it the enemy AI found some cuffed civvies and executed them while roaming the premises, so later I used the "run to the exit" method.

This is a game I find really fascinating, mostly because it fills that classic SWAT, Rainbow 6 gap after years of the more action heavy titles. From my little game design experience, I'm sure the developers have done extensive research on police operations like this and most likely could not translate a realistic scenario into a fun game. Like you said, a full team would be far more robust and have multiple redundancies to keep themselves, civilians and even the criminals from unnecessary harm. It might make for for an interesting top-down tactics experience. But in shooters, players have an expectation of agency and risk. Rolling in behind an AV with 15 people, full awareness and sniper, perimeter, air support would be fun the first few times but even as the team lead, I think players will feel like a cog in a machine. I believe they try to account for this overly risky approach in the fiction and world building with a gutted department and rampant corruption. Makes for a nice action plot while showcasing some real techniques for tactical fans. And AI is hell to fine tune but right now, these guys are better suited to a special operations mil sim. I know they spent a lot of effort upgrading friendly AI for the current version but they may have over tuned the enemies to compensate.

Even after so much tinkering with the AI parameters, I still can't figure out what is making these suspects turn into suicidal terminators that are always eager to rush towards a 5-man SWAT team stacked on a door. I really hope to see some major changes in the next hotfix because, at its current state, people are better off treating this game like its Rainbow Six.
@asongeveryday10 ай бұрын
The culprit is the "morale" system. It has been screwed up to the point where using tactics that would normally decrease suspect morale actually increase it. The more suspects that are neutralized or apprehended, the higher their morale becomes. Using equipment like flashbangs as well as other general tactics increase it. They will have max morale very early on in a level and therefore fire on sight, rush you, and refuse compliance.

I hope devs listen to you and add everything you told, especially snipers and K9, but now just have what we have. I tried to standardize tacticts in all situations and got: 1. Everytime suspects ultimately armed. My guys are using maximum protection except helmet (CS mask). No PP, no shotguns. Only rifles with AP. My favorite german G-37. Love its impact. 2. Maximum CS. Gasing everything in front of you. Every room, carridors and dangerous areas. If its long - I help guys with my launcher. 3. Maximum wedges. First objective is block perimeter, second - block every room inside to separate suspects and clear them by maximum firepower. 4. 1 shield for each team, 1 mirror, 1 breacher and me with CS launcher (because of bug, they can fire only once with it, and do it stupid). Not realistic tactics, but situation makes tactics. More realistic game - more realistic moves.

Maybe if the game adds cinematic sceneries like reviewing operation order in the inside of armored vehicle gives better impressions, hmmm and the appearance of their swat mobile as their satellite command post to head quarters ect.. hmmm

How much would patrol officers get involved? E.g. once SWAT has secured that shop area, would patrol officers(or I guess e.g. TRU or something similar) go in to keep it secured, and same with e.g. entrances, or do you just pray that the suspects don't manage to get around you? Then again, some of the missions in RoN would probably already be "started" by patrol, e.g. the College one feels like one of those scenarios where most departments have the policy that whatever officers get on scene first just move in and neutralize the threats ASAP? It also feels like for some missions, a 4+1 team is way too small based on the amount of entrances or size of the areas (e.g. Twisted Nerve where I kind off assume you would want maybe 2-3 teams of 3-5 people? 1 per house and maybe a seperate for the tunnels?) Kind of feels like the role you have in the game sometimes is more what some sort of command would do outside of the scene, since I assume somebody would be actively monitoring it all, noting down what areas are clear, what doors are wedged etc.? Or does the team just have to remember it?
@TheDeadfast10 ай бұрын
Chris said in the past that in real life the SWAT team would be much bigger. I think he said his team is 15 people, but I might remember it wrong. The door wedges would not be used in real life, as he said in this video they are a stand in for two team members that would be tasked with covering said door.

Chris, no offense, I'm trying to be supportive here, but you still look like you are kinda lost. Don't get me wrong, you are the cop not me (although I work at a police station), but I should inform you that you can and SHOULD bring up the tablet while you are still at the police station. The briefing audio is also played out like police personnel are sitting in a sort of briefing room. Don't shy away from asking for help. Many people will help you how the game is optimally operated on discord or guilded or even here. There is no shame that you spent your life doing something more important than being able to skillfully play a video game. The problem is, if you listen to a briefing while on a mission, a wandering suspect might see you and shoot either you, or a civilian either on purpose or by accident. Also, if we really want to jump into a case chronologically, it is best to listen to 911 calls before the briefing - be aware that the briefing audio auto-starts each time a 911 call ends so if there are still calls left you need to quickly click play on them so you don't miss out on a lot of the briefing audio. Also, not to step on your job, but why do you stand in front of a door which is about to be opened? As seen in the game footage, you immediately got shot, just the thing that should be avoided in such cases. Even if the people on the other side didn't get shoecked enough by the C2, long range shooters with rifle calibers could still have killed you. I have some key advice for you. Separately bind F to be your interact button, and remove the compliance yell for it. Bind a separate compliance yell on a different key, which you'll need to REMEMBER. Now you won't accidentally yell on people who are barely alive, or children, or doors, or guns, or environmental evidence. Around the 19 minute mark you were constantly walking around a door on your left which you didn't acknowledge, wasn't covered directly by your officers, and lead to a room that wasn't cleared before. You need to develop a uniquely new free mindset in video games that makes your hand willing to look around freely in a virtual 3 dimensional space while watching the whole thing on a 2 dimensional screen. Because, giving the benefit of the doubt, you were playing the game like Chris the Cop demonstrating what the game is in your eyes, and not being immersed in the first person viewpoint experience. It is okay to relax and strategically take the scenery in with performing inquisitive look-arounds. You are also playing to have fun! We appreciate what you're doing on the channel and maybe with fan-cooperation we could teach you to be the best of what only YOU can be with the experience YOU have in a game world which can be tricky to master. Also some followup questions for your Equipment Breakdown video: 1. Is it as easy to kick down a door as A.I. officers do it in Ready or Not? 2. Is there such a thing as putting a chemical plastique around the lock and burning it out of the door with a slow burn but not too slow not to have time for it? Like some Termite composite mix? 3. How accepted are less than usual high capacity mags? How frequently have you seen lawmen use those in the same type of missions you ran? Like +5 PMags, Drum mags, Snail mags, Coffin mags, coupled/taped mags, extended mags? Any special extra mag holder on you, like strapped to thigh or inside buttstock? 4. If you encounter mirrors in interior areas, what is their significance? 5. Do you ever use Shotguns or breaching rounds to blow a hole in something without it being a door you'd want to go through? 6. Do trailers really need to carry hostages that have bomb vests and suspects who have intentional sew-e-side bomb vests on them? Or other explosives? 7. How often do you find yourself having not enough supplies of anything? What do you do? How do you get more ammo or grenades? 8. Can CS gas be flammable? Have there been stories? 9. What happens when encountering unforseen significant fire or electrical hazards? 10. Do you ever need to destroy a padlock somehow? How? Do SWAT teams have access to some blowtorch cutter? 11. What possible places can a SWAT officer put his badge to be visible and during such a delicate operation what would the real reason be for a visible badge? 12. Do you have use for any kind of Smoke Grenades? What kinds? Can you call in drone-dropped smoke grenades to a location? 13. What determines if some supporting Sniper person has the greenlight to fire? 14. How many types of traps does SWAT need to watch out for during a deployment? Explosive or maybe even chemical or fire-based? Where are they put? How to watch out for them? 15. Do you have any sort of vehicle mounted fire support weapon? Even if non-lethal. 16. Have you ever seen SWAT use a Light Machine Gun? What would their usage be? 17. What are all the ammunition types beside AP FMJ, JHP that you use? Beanbag, breaching surely. Foam/sponge you mentioned perhaps. Rubber bullets/batons? Launchable grenades obviously. Anything that splatters glue all over the place perhaps? 18. What is the lowest and highest officer count you know of on a SWAT mission? 19. Can Stinger blind someone? 20. What is the original intended purpose of a 9-Banger?

Hey, thank you for this wonderful post. I will do the briefing at the station, honestly I didn't know you could. However, it real call-outs we do the briefing in the field at the command post which is a distance away from the scene in most cases.

Cool gameplay and explanation, controls in this game is a bit clunky, also you can't cancel animations that's not comfortable, like when you started to reload your grenade launcher you must finish very long reload and cannot switch to your weapon or when you're arresting someone and suddenly situation changed you can't stop what you doing, your character will keep arresting suspect/civillian till the end and in that moment you could get shot or stabbed, also nade throws are clunky too, you can't remove pin from a grenade and hold it till a moment to throw it immediately, you must just hold a grenade in your hands with pin and when you want to throw it immediately you must remove pin and only then throw it maybe that's not very realistic, but in game where AI is reacting hella fast they should give us such opportunity or make removing pin part faster, but i still love this game and believe they'll make it only better with some time! I want to see reviews on all levels in this game your content is definitely worth to wait.

Im no SWAT by any means but been in the army so i thought so aswell that there is no armor on the scene , not even a bus. I cant imagine SWAT gotta cover 150 square meters with obstacles on their own when entering a building they are gonna sweep. Pretty big misstake from developers that they didnt add that.
