Hi everyone! Have you tried the Decal Machine slice function? Leave a comment and let me know! :)

Have I tried the slice function?.... I haven't actually tried Decal Machine yet. As a beginner, it is quite hard to know when to 'jump' into these really powerful and excellent add-ons. I'm someone who always likes to approach new skills in a very methodical way, slowly picking up all the basics and principles, and then building on that with experimentation and experience. I have always believed that one should start simple, and, in this case, learn the principles of vanilla blender before installing all manner of add-ons. However, videos like yours are very helpful and insightful, they allow beginners like me to see how the add-on works in practice, and get a feel for what it can do. I have watched ALL of your videos on Decal Machine, and I thought two things: 1. Your videos were an excellent introduction to DM 2. DM seems like a really, really good add-on Which brings me back to the beginners dilemma. At what point do I get this, and bring it into my 'workflow' (errrm, that's a bit of grande term for a beginner!) It's not about the money, at all. After I had seen what it could do, I would gladly throw $40 or whatever it costs at the developer, they've earned every penny as far as I'm concerned. Anyway I like your videos very much. They are clear, thoughtful and nicely paced. Thank you for your efforts. What you do is very much appreciated. PS Bonnie looks like an absolutely beautiful companion.

@@richardconway6425 I actually hear this a lot - "start simple and learn principles of vanilla Blender," (not just with Blender, but also with SketchUp, etc). While there is a place for this, I don't really like it as a way of thinking because there's SO much time you could spend on this. I do definitely think have a handle on fundamentals is important for sure, but at the some time, it's really a question of "What do you need to do?" If you need to get to a certain result, and there's an add-in that can help you get there, I don't see any reason not to use it. If you have to dig a utility trench, why pick the shovel if there's a backhoe available? Glad you're liking the videos though - happy I can help!

@@TheCGEssentials thanks for your response, that makes a lot of sense. Especially with something like Decal Machine, which does something very particular very well. A huge time-saver, and easy to use. I wonder, would you consider doing a video which discussed this very issue. I think many beginners find the learning curve somewhat intimidating, and that's just with vanilla blender, so the idea of all these really powerful tools is equally intimidating, it's just a whole load more stuff to learn. What does it do? How do you use it? When do you use it? A whole load more short cuts and keystrokes to learn.... it's an investment of time and effort. I think it would be both interesting and useful to hear how you progressed from vanilla blender into a world where you had all the add-ons at your disposal, and knew how to use them. "What do you want to achieve?" .... that's a very good question, which really distills everything we're talking about into a single maxim, and with something like Decal Machine that's very easy to answer, but with other add-ons, like Hardops and Boxcutter, which seem to have been almost universally accepted by experienced blender users, it's much harder to know, because they are so much broader in their application. The typical list of add-ons favoured by experienced practitioners always seems to include: Machine tools, Hardops, Boxcutter, Mesh Machine, Decal Machine, Kit-Ops, Mira tools, CABLERATOR, and perhaps a few others. That's quite a lot of stuff to take on, especially since many of these are general purpose refinements, made to make blender faster and easier to use. So, perhaps you might like to do a video discussing this, the pros and cons, the 'whys' and wherefores. I would find that very interesting and helpful, and I'm sure a lot of other beginners would too. Thanks, Rich
