The 5059 really seems to add space and detail making everything more heard while beefing everything up it really does sound awesome, very noticeable through this video. I need one

Great work producing this 5059 Satellite's sound comparisons; it helps a lot in choosing a summing mixer; I'm still learning to use my 5059; awesome upgrade for my studio!

Wow, I love the adjustments you made via the mbp and 5059. I think the sonic differences are less about summing and more about the awesome Neve pieces through which you are running the tracks. The recording, song, your mixes and production work sound killer. Keep up the awesome work. This is clearly a win for team Rupert Neve Designs. Awesome stuff!

Then that would go back to "summing". Yes he made adjustment which were necessary....but 1st and foremost....it IS a summing bus.

Thanks Danny, your video is very helpful. The song used as demo is a nice song that breathes enough for me to distinguish the tones.

I been thinking about running my busses into a neve summing mixer to add analog characteristics to my recordings (more the anything to my virtual instruments) and I was looking for examples to hear the difference and I really heard the difference here in this video. The tracks got warmer, with more detail and depth. Thank you.

+orangesugarcube ....likely folks struggling with whether it's worth the expense... I think one of the free things that bring huge increases in quality is using very little compression and then cranking up the volume knob. Like in the 70s and 80s. Free , just takes huge discipline not to squash mix for loudness.

I find this both great and a problem. The problem is the depth and loudness the 5059 imparts creates a greater need for compression and EQ-ing. If those mixes are “finished”, I have disagreements with them but less so with the Protools ITB Mix examples. Either way, the 5059 does a great thing to the sound but underscores what we all know; it takes many pieces to make a nice sonic pie. Since I don’t track a lot, I just mix, I pass all tracks I receive through a vintage Neve module. That alone creates an amazing difference. I’m stuck between getting the 5059 or getting an external hardware comp/limiter for just my drum buss to compliment my growing outboard gear collection. In other words, if you create your owns stems post passing all tracks through a vintage unit, it may make more sense to have outboard gear just for the stems and then sum from their outputs to the Neve Master Buss Processor. In my case, I’d do that by using inserts on my buss sends from my digits mixer. So, buy this or buy more outboard gear?

@@MELOPSMUSIC I haven’t done anything, yet! I do have my heart set on a curve bender, however! I have a feeling that certain EQ units almost acts, like compressors, if you know what I mean.

Not sure the levels are the same. Louder sounds better, even if its slightly louder. Were the takes level matched, maybe for RMS? I like the 5059 Silk takes. I thought the takes with the 5059 and the MBP were a bit over cooked. But super nice gear. Love it.

Its louder. but when i level match manually, the crunched version sounds tighter and mastered in a good way. But wouldent notice if i diddent do it myself

Its interesting. The Neve is wider and adds more separation/clarity and thickness but I think somehow the protools mix suits this particular song/mix better.

Bet if you were recording onto tape you would never need a box like that to begin with. But in the way of things today that isn’t realistic anymore, is it?
@relaxmax6808
@relaxmax6808 4 жыл бұрын
it is always recording ON , dude ! Some fews are even news one 24 tracks tape recorder.... Occasion = 4 K$ - 30 K$ New = 8 K$ . So yes you dont need theses boxes but you surely need others with vintage tape recorders . So it will cost you much money ! OR you do it humbly with little cheaper old recorders less than 1000$ and you can add computer or not to push the mix further. Many ways to do it. But the result is different each time with different configuration. I think you can get some great sound with cheap tape recorder too but you have to pay to mix it and master it after .( around 300 $ the song )

You mention you are monitoring through the 5059. So are you monitoring while tracking? Big question for me is signal flow with regard to how that works.

I Prefer the sound of the 5059 a lot in the Verses but is the Chorus with the Silk and Saturation, sounds too bright and loses the Magic and I prefer there the Pro Tools Mix

Thanks for the video...great band, song, cool drums and sounds. Maybe if the mix could be worked thru the 5059 and MBP would sound better, but to be honest the feel of the mix in the Pro Tools mix sounds better with the song is more engaging.... no doubt 5059 and MBP sounds great, but the way was used in this Demo do not serve the song IMO. thanks for the video tho...

i feel similar about it. i understand and appreciate what the 5059 does, it definately sounds more open and engaging. but to me the mix sounds more ballanced in the pro tools versions. why? because this particular song is so smooth and pillowy, it doesn't need the drum transients to cut through which is happening in the 5059 version. also itb sounds more glued. yes, every element is more apparent in the 5059 version, but that lofi itb glue suits this song better than the otb summed separation. i own lot's of expensive gear (sum through ssl sigma), so i'm not trying to say itb is better, i'm trying to say give every song what is best to it and in this case itb wins for me, it supports the emotion of this song better than the hifi otb summing.
@Cdgj1
@Cdgj1 5 жыл бұрын
Michael Czernicki I’m sure you may know this...but the correct comparison could only be a completely new mix, starting from scratch, mixing through the 5059. vs. the finished ITB mix. That’s the way they’re supposed to be used/compared.
