I’ve had a 5060 Centerpiece up and running for 3 years in my studio. It does something very special to the audio and it has sped up workflow which is an important factor to me. It’s a baby 5088. It is my favorite piece of gear in my studio by far! Cheers!

Was it just me or did the orbit sound the most attractive? Thank you vintage king for these audio examples. You know how to sell a product 😉

Good observation, although I slightly disagree. It's brighter - but the Centerpiece is much meatier. Both sound excellent. Curiously the Satellite really didn't sound great comparatively .

Absolutely. I thought the same thing scrolled down to see how far it would take to find someone else saying it and you were the first post.

Forget the audio, the video production on this presentation was pretty freakin awesome! The lighting and camera work and editing was top notch.

Very cool. All three pieces add their own flavour, but the centerpiece is by far imparting depth and width in the most natural and pleasing way.

They all sound good, but the 5060 for me gave the most depth and separation, love the 3D image.

So the Orbit actually had the most bass boost and low end. The others had that full smooth well rounded sound that meshes the tracks together. But theres something about the low end sensitivity of the Orbit thats quite impressive.

This record is absolutely amazing front to back. I found it from this video and now that record is a grail in my collection.
@raymondgracie25923 жыл бұрын
I’d print the mix through the centerpiece to get that awesome sense of dimension and separation. And for that impressive lush feel with that neve low end.. final mastering print through the orbit

You spend the means to get improved sound. How much of an improvement you get for what you spend is up to you to quantify. In the old days, gear like Neve was miles ahead; you really heard the differences. Lately, everything out there sounds pretty good and you have to listen to details and think in terms of how your body reacts to the sound to qualify differences. In my case, I’d be buying the satellite along with the Centerpiece so I wish there would have been an example of them working in tandem. You guys are doing great work here. Thank you.

Too much money to spend on just summing. Just my 2 cents. Buy Rupert 5012 (with silk, used for about $1200) and build a passive summing for $40. Spend the rest of your money on compressors (RND 5254, Masterbus processor, e.t.c.), mastering EQs, limiters like the Bettermaker, or even upgrade your converters!

Fantastic demonstration with excellent visual feedback for the A/Bs, really appreciated your attention to detail here. 5060 won by a lot here to my ears, followed by 5059 and then Orbit. None of them sounded bad, and the hardware difference was evident (and beneficial!) in all of them.

Why is the ITB mix so darker than the Orbit? Listen to the high hat at the beginning. The hat is very quiet. When you play the Orbit sample, the hat is much louder and brighter. Were those other EQs patched in somehow?

Great resource, guys. Swedish national radio made a copy of mid 60's Neve, probably out of pride. It has an unmistable character all its own, but the takeaway here are the vital functions covered by this range, which are being implemented by my tech genius, as we hook up the new tube summing stage.

All the different mixes sound good, some better than others but my preference is for the raw summing mix which I think is sweeter to my ears, though not as smooth and stereo wide and lacking openness but less misty and blurry. I like the clarity and transparency on the recordings of the 60's and 70's.

You can run the 5059 (or two 5059's I believe) into the 5060. There are some diagrams in the 5059 and 5060 manuals that show connectivity possibilites.

I’m just wondering based on the color design white vs black do these new design Neves are they all same quality compared to the old white ones because the price of used ones are quite a huge difference. I’m trying to purchase a 5059 and prices are quite big differences

I heard no difference 😏
@vintagekingproaudio3 жыл бұрын
It can definitely be a subtle thing but there's definitely some sweet harmonic distortion and overall spread happening to our summing prints. If you have a pair of studio monitors at home, sit in your listening position and go from the ITB print to the summing mixer prints, you can literally hear the width and depth expand in all of the RND pieces (especially on the Centerpiece). When it goes back to the ITB print, it's like everything sucks in and stiffens up real quick. Thanks for checking it out!
@sec213 жыл бұрын
You'll definitely hear a difference when you paid 8 grand for it. And you'll tell all your friends you hear a difference too. And the guy you're selling it to for 6 grand a year later. 😆
@theredfaceofficial3 жыл бұрын
If you can’t hear the difference, don’t worry. The difference is pretty obvious from ITB vs the summing, maybe just give it some time and pick out specific details and compare. For me, I immediately hear the glue and silky openness. I hear that even on my iphone 11 speakers lol. It’s all about training your ear and hearing out for details. You’ll get there!

I like these new neve designs - but .... they do seem so rubbish compared to what he used to sell - I do understand it as his full desk would be too expensive - but this tiny thing verses his old full desk ... why couldnt he make his full desk but with cheaper parts and give us that
@St997853 жыл бұрын
Because someone who's willing to shell out the investment that's a real console, then they're already doing this like it's serious business. At these price points, it at least gives small studio owners and avant hobbyists a chance to experience some of that mojo. There's not really a big enough market inbetween that to justify production, simple as that.
