The SQ looks great for emulating the volume faders and mute and solo buttons of a Mackie MCU. Is there a way to add a per track "record arm" button? Maybe reassign the solo buttons for this function? If I have to arm tracks with a mouse, I don't think the SQ can replace my current MCU controller. Thanks for the great video!

Thanks for watching Jeremy. We did some research into this and right now, you would still need to arm the individual tracks in your DAW. The global record/playback buttons are on the SQ though.

Hey! This is great! I was wondering if it is possible to use this midi function in tandem with inputting audio through the USB cable? I want to run our church livestream mix through logic, but have logic follow the faders on our SQ6. This would mean the input audio from our band would come into logic from the SQ6 and the midi data to control the faders at the same time. Is that possible? Would it be stable?

Yes, i’ve done this without issue, even with the usb driver running at 96K. Alternatively, you can always add one of the dante cards, or a waves card. Keeping both signals over usb won’t be a problem though.

Can I setup specific assignments ? I’m trying to make it so a certain midi channel always controls the mains within the DAW.

With the way the HUI protocol works, you wouldn’t be able to do this with the faders. This is not an Allen and Heath limitation, but a HUI limitation. You could however program one of the rotary encoders to always be your master fader. If you’re mixing enough channels where your SQ doesn’t need to page up and down, you’d be able to have the master channel on a fader without it moving.

Ive done everything as in the video, it just wont allow my sq6 to controll my logic pro. running it over usb. I have a Dante running for the audio too.

You’ll be adding new virtual patch cables if this is your first time configuring the SQ. The other virtual cables could belong to other controllers/software. You need 1 cable for SQ Midi Out and another for each block of 8 channels you’d like to control. For example, if you’re using an SQ7 and want to patch all 32 channels, you would have 5 cables in total.

You can also use this to send back to the console from Logic. In Logic, set the output of each channel to its own mono output. If you’re connecting over usb, you should have 32 outputs from Logic to the SQ.

Since we’ve published this video, Allen & Heath has renamed the “DAW Control Driver” to “Allen&Heath Midi Control.” Once installed off the website, and you open the program, nothing will happen but you’ll see an extra icon in the top right menu of your computer. It’s a white circle with faders.

I am working with an SQ5 & Logic and i've followed your directions but i cannot control the mixer in Logic. I've Downloaded the Allen & Heath Daw Control, Added the Controller and set the ins/outs and i get nothing. The Sq5 will stop and Start Logic from the MMC screen but no control of the Mixer in Logic. Any Weird gotchas i may have missed?

The only two potential gotchas are: - Having to setup 4 fader banks and displace the starting number. That’s a HUI thing. -Having to offset the midi channel on the board by 1 vs on your customer. Both of these are covered in the video though Are you running over usb or rtp? You may want to contact A&H support.

Does the protocol you’re choosing in the Midi Control program match what you’re selecting when making the control surface in Logic? I.E. HUI or Mackie

@@Johnbanthony Yes. I setup everything exactly as the video shows. If i move the faders in logic with my mouse than the faders start to move on the SQ6 but if i move the SQ's faders, nothing happens in logic. But im sure that every setup is the same as in the video. I downloaded the latest MIDI Control program from AH page, using Logic Pro 10.6.1 and the mixer's firmware is 1.5.4 r3979. I did the surface settings as well

Hi Michael, it's really tough for us to know what you're doing wrong. Can you first confirm that you have the latest firmware as well as the latest version of Director (links above)? In addition, please be more specific so we can try to troubleshoot where you're running into an issue.

@@michaeloiseoghade5435 The big things to check without being able to see your setup, would be to make sure you’re selecting Mackie Control, and to make sure the fader offset is correct after the first bank. Also that you have the correct midi channel, since the SQ will off the midi control by 1, which is covered in the video. I also noticed when I was prepping this video that I needed to restart Logic some of the times I had set this up. I’d none of this works, your best bet is to reach out to [e-mail] if you’re in the US. Don't know how I bumped onto this. All in all Awesome content 🥇😎. I also have been watching those similar from MStarTutorials and kinda wonder how you guys create these stuff. MStar Tutorials also had cool information about similiar things on his vids.
