Using the Google Home Mini with an iPhone: Is It a Good Gift?

You can set the Google Home to link your cell phone number to your device. That way, when you call someone using the Google Home/Home mini, they will see your cell phone number on their phone when you call them. To do this, simply open the Google Home app, tap the hamburger menu (top left) then tap "more settings", scroll down and tap "Call on speakers," choose your cell phone number (you may have to edit the number) and that's all you have to do. After doing this, everyone you call will see your cell phone number on their caller ID.

The setting up of "office" and "dusk" lights is done within the Philips Hue app itself, not in Google Home. In the Philips Hue app, click the "Routines" cog and then tap "Other routines". Set the room/light how you want and save it. Once you have the app set up, you can then tell Google Home to "set room ____ to ____." Hope this helps.

There's a new feature called routines which will allow you to do tasks like automatically change lights by a phrase like office or dusk as you tried to do in the video. It also lets you pick a time to auto do them too. It just has to be setup in the app first.

Hi! Thanks for the wonderful comment! So as far as iTunes music, the only way to play it on the google home is by Bluetooth sadly. I mean, it works, just a bit awkward to use. You have to set it up by saying “hey google, pair Bluetooth” and going through that process (the speaker guides you through it, it’s pretty simple). Then you have to say “hey google turn on Bluetooth” every time you want to play music. I had no idea you could even use Bluetooth when making this video, so maybe I will update it soon! Thanks for the suggestion. About my room, I sure try! Haha I’m a total neat freak but being a college student means overlooking it from time to time, but I could never turn on my camera without tidying up. Since this video I’ve moved into my own place (no roommates!), so my room is a lot bigger and I have my own living room to record in which helps a lot in keeping things clean! I hope you don’t mind the long comment, just don’t often have nice people taking time out of there day to write me like this, so know that I appreciate it! Have a wonderful day!

Google doesn’t really lock things into one ecosystem, so you can get the same functionality wether you have an android or an iPhone. The actual differentiating factor is if you prefer HomeKit, and if you want to have a better sound experience. Which, to be honest Google Home/Nest Mini still delivers a great audio experience, HomePod Mini just has better control on bass.

Hi Cason. I finally received my Google Mini and I am just as impressed as you were. However, I cannot make phone calls as you did to your Mum. I noticed you mentioned you had transferred your contacts to Google. Now please don’t think I am a dummy but how did you do this pleeese. I have searched but I am a little confused...if I transfer my contacts to Google , will I lose them from iPhone? Also, so I use my Laptop or is there an App that does this??? For the contacts, if you have a Mac with your contacts on them you can download them as instructed here: (osxdaily.com/2015/07/14/export-contacts-mac-os-x/) you can stop once you get the vCard file. Then, upload them to google.com/contacts :) (Edited because the link was not working the first time)

Yes, I had to set up my calendar app on my phone to use my Google email account. Alternatively you can download the google calendar app from the app store.

Not natively with voice recognition, however if you tell Google Home to turn on Bluetooth, and then connect it with your phone you can still play your Apple Music through the speaker.

You can also download all your .m4a files from iTunes the ones you purchased and upload them to google play, there you can add them to a play list after you upload them and call the play list whatever you want such as “cleaning playlist” or “workout playlist” and then you can say, “hey google, play cleaning playlist “ and google will play your uploaded music

Adan Tenorio you can connect via Bluetooth or you can download your iTunes .m4a files and upload them into google play, create a playlist and add them to it, and the say hey google play “play list name, or whatever you called the play list” and it will play you your uploaded iTunes music

It only works in USA , you can download your contacts from iCloud and upload that file to www.google.com/contacts and your google home will be able to make calls from your contact list. However the calls will show up as private or unlisted unless you go to your google home app and add your number

Thanks for watching! Personally I have found them super helpful, but they aren’t for everyone! I use them mostly to set timers, ask for a quick weather forecast, and playing specific things from Netflix/KZbin! Really save time in those areas!
