From my testing, you can use Mini's (and probably all of them) as a Bluetooth speaker even when there isn't a wifi connection. You just have to make sure you previously paired it with your phone when it was connected to wifi.

I managed to get one from China (I'm in Europe). Great product I realy love it. Charging the battery takes ages though and you cannot use the original Google cable so be carefull not to damage the input when youm try to get the Google cable in :)

That looks pretty good, Brett. What would make that an outstanding product is if it used wireless charging. Imagine how nice that would be not to have to plug it back in each time. My last thought is that with the GH mini going for under $30 now (when on sale), it might be better just to buy another for fixed location uses.

Sean Harrison You are right about the Google Home Mini not accepting wireless charging. But I was speaking about the device that Brett is showing here. If that were to incorporate a wireless charging device receiver, and was placed on a wireless charging pad, then the batteries would be charged. The Mini would always be plugged in that battery base.

I have 2 generators and a gas grill. 2 yrs ago when the hurricane hit Fayetteville NC, Verizon gave us unlimited data. I have about 100 18650 batteries and 8 battery packs for the batteries, so we were on our hotspot and never ran out of power. The kids and were able to watch youtube and hulu, listen to music and get updates on the repairs for the 4 days we were without power. Hey Brett, I found a way how Google mini can work without wifi connection , only bluetooth needed.For that you must turn on bluetooth on your Google home when wifi is available, then swich off.Next time you turn on your Google home bluetooth connection will be active, and you can connect to your phone via bluetooth as any other bt speaker out there .That what I do yesterday when we were on picnic with my family.Please confirm if you understand my poor English )

Set your phone/speaker to English US and then you can have have continued conversations. Unfortunately this only works with American one. Then if you did that you need to go to your Google Assistant settings (you need a Google home device to be able to do this) and tap on preferences. You will find continue conversation and can turn it on or off

not going to lie this defats the purpose of what the the google home mini is used for, it’s part of a smart home system and isn’t supposed to be portable. thats why you would have a main device like the google home or a nest home w screen in the living room and then a nest mini or google mini in the bedrooms etc that’s how you would use the whole ecosystem to it’s full extent using features like broadcasting or duo calling. If you’re going to be moving one mini around you might as well just get a portable speaker and use google assistant on your phone.

Just bought a battery base for my GH and I would have preferred this as the $ risk of forgetting it outside is much lower. But for that price, I'll be getting one anyway. Well, once it's available in Canada. I do find that being able to bring it outside is fun but just have to get into the habit of remembering to bring it outside. lol. Once Sonos gets the Assistant to work with their speakers, it'll follow me everywhere.

You would need to set it up on a WiFi there and many of the school wifis are difficult to add it to. You could have your own hotspot on your phone though.

Kitchguy 1. You can always pair your Google Home Mini with an Android or iOS device using the Google Home app. And you’ll be able play music onto it. 2. While you are charging the case, it will also supply power to Google Home Mini simultaneously.

Yes you can do this to one of them. In the Settings of your Google Home Mini go to the default speaker option and the you will see the option to pair a Bluetooth Speaker to do that.

Right now I can only find it on Amazon in the US. I do not use a range extender and it seem to work fine. I do have a pretty good signal already.

Brett while this isn't the best place to leave product feedback I wanted you let you know that my device arrived and after simple setup, plugged in to charge but after 12 hours the Google Mini shut down due to lack of charge. I could not get the unit to charge no matter what I did. The flyer that came with the device was useless, there was no website, email or phone. Very disappointed and returned to Amazon.

Instead of adding new ways to spend on it, Google should work to resolve MANY issues that the device has. Like music stuttering when connected via Bluetooth to speaker.

Am i missing something ? Why not just use your phone ? Works exactly the same and can do the exact same function and you dont need to be on wifi ? I have a google home in my main room but if I'm anywhere else i just ask my phone, even works when in my pocket so still as convenient.
