Great video. One small warning, the little hose shown at 4:57 can become loose fit after some use and fall off in the bottle, blowing air into the system. I suggest securing it with a small cable tie. It's very problematic when it falls off.

Impressive brake calipers and discs thought it was a Ferrari at first before i realised it was its cousin Alfa Romeo 😊...Anyway you've refreshed my memory on using this kit as I've just got it out the shed after 4 years of no use to bleed a set of calipers after changing a brake hose .Thanks and all the best

Tremendous video and gives me the confidence to bleed the brakes on my old 90s Citroen as there's a bit of excessive travel on the pedal and bubbles in the reservoir.

Hi Rick, thanks for this clear and precise video, it really helped. I watched it before using the product for the first time, and I was done in about an hour. Normally a right pain in the arse job, as my Volvo 240 has three nipples on each front caliper! So big thanks dude. 👍

I've had one of these for about 25 years, and he's right: it's a really handy bit of kit (I'm using it today, now it's not winter any more!). However if you keep one as long as I have you will need to do some significant fettling eventually. I've had to replace the bottle cap seal, both the crimped pipe inserts into the bottle cap, the pickup-pipe and the tyre valve rubber seal. All of these degraded over time and I was spending more and more time faffing about trying to get it to keep air in. Having fettled all of that it's now working just as well as when it was new. I reckon it started to get tiresome after about 10 years. It's possible that the build quality of the device has improved since the mid 1990s and you won't get these issues, but then it's built down to a price so this may well not have changed. It does look exactly the same as mine in the video, including the way the crimps on the cap pipes are done (the weakest part of the design). I do wish the bottle was a bit bigger. If doing a lot of bleeding due to cranky brakes you can empty it, which is a huge PITA if you don't notice in time and suck air into the master cylinder (never quite got that far but got very close once).

Had to replace the rear cylinders on a Caterham with ford sierra rear drum brakes. Ran it at 20psi and it pumped plenty of fluid through and cleared the bubbles. Tested brakes pedal spongey and no brake operation. Scratched head as to why. With a friend did it the old way pedal pumping and lo a firm pedal and brakes operating perfect. Not impressed with the eezi bleed.

the eezibleed kit instructions do say that sometimes you have to pump the pedal manually in some brake systems,,I think its pot luck as to whether the eezibleed does the job, but if your system is compatible with it it is very cool...

Very important with bleeding brakes ....always start at the furthest caliper from the master cylinder or ABS pump if your car has one then work back to the closest!! Don't store brake fluid because it's hygroscopic and just opening a new bottle of brake fluid and the cars reservoir can allow a little air moisture into the system which will obviously affect braking and corrosion but the brake fluids boiling temperature etc Try and buy just enough for the job in hand as not to waste money. ...( I didn't know that and bought 5 ltrs thinking i could store it for a year or two but no!! Not worth the risk!! You can buy a brake fluid tester ...Laser tools do a decent one about £30 that you dip into your brake fluid reservoir then it detects the amount of moisture and gives you a green light good to go or red etc which means flush your brake fluid through asap as it will compromise braking and brake line internal corrosion hence why some videos you may see have debris flushing out the clear pipe ...of course can be some gunk in the caliper too. Its a very handy tool the Gunsons Eezibleed ...well worth £22 Good video just thought I'd point out bleeding sequence etc etc and storage of brake fluid 👍🏻 If you store the brake fluid for any time make sure you have a tester to check moisture content !! A restoration garage i know and quite a few people run the engine when bleeding brakes especially if you have an ABS pump because it really does help push out any trapped air normal bleeding doesn't....... I used to bleed brake manually with a clear pipe and someone pushing the brake pedal ( must be getting old 😂 ) and today it's so much easier so don't be daunted by the task 👍🏻stay safe! 🙏🏻

Rick trying to do a Mk3 Golf, there doesn’t seem to be much flow into the jam jar, just a dribble really. Have checked pressure in the tyre is correct, and opened the nipple sufficient I would have thought. The fluid will go straight through the ABS valve I take it? Had followed your procedure to the letter. Regards Roy W

I would have syringed the old fluid out of the tank and then refilled with new rather than top up the tank mixing the old and new together.
@_RicksGarage
@_RicksGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Correct, but the fluid in my tank is already brand new having previously already bled my rear brakes and clutch a few weeks ago. The fronts where also done previously and they’ve covered no more than 50 miles before rebuilding the calipers.....hence no colour change in fluid when you can see me bleeding them 👍🏼

Rick, with the Gunson kit do you not have to start with the caliper furthest away from the master, like when you bleed brakes from the pedal? Cheers Steve
@_RicksGarage
@_RicksGarage 3 жыл бұрын
That is traditionally the way. As you say, In the past we always normally started with the caliper furthest away from the master but nowadays it’s furthest away from the ABS pump which can be mounted on the opposite side of the engine bay to the master. However, the GTV is completely different altogether according to the workshop manual which says to bleed front left, front right, Left rear, right rear. In that order. Completely different to what I’ve always traditionally done but I’m going with the manual on this occasion

Traditionally I was already taught to start with the wheel furthest away from the alternator but for the GTV the manual states to do it closest wheel first! If I’m honest, I’ve done it both ways on my car and both ways worked fine for me

If you have a minor leak under gearbox. Will this still work. Every 6 months or so. Need to top up brake fluid because uses the system. Ask a mechanic and he said it doesn't affect your brake system.
@_RicksGarage
@_RicksGarage 2 жыл бұрын
From what you described Id say it sounds like you could have a leaking clutch slave cylinder located on the gearbox. Don’t worry, this is not generally an expensive part to replace. Just get it checked by a qualified mechanic. Topping up the system every 6 months means it is a very minor leak but it could get much worse very quickly so be careful. No amount of bleeding will cure a leak or loss of fluid I’m afraid.

Great vid. I’m contemplating this kit for my rear callipers after installing new callipers and pads/disc. Isn’t there a need to pump the brake pedal at any point? Will the pedal automatically get some stiffness once the bleed is complete?

No need to pump the brake pedal. If all goes to plan a firm pedal will be achieve after bleeding with the kit.
@fakevirus8828
@fakevirus8828 2 жыл бұрын
Adding to my last comment. If you don't have VCDS or whatever software your car brand needs to run a forced ABS bleed. You can do a slow bleed over the space of 48hr to get air out of ABS system and hard to bleed parts. What you do is pump the brake once then pull the cap off, undo every bleed nipple enough so it drips around 1 noticeable fluid drip per minute. Leave the entire system for 48hr with checks every 7-10ht to keep the reservoir topped up. You need to ensure its a dry 48hr preferably below 60% humidity. If its not dry or is a sunny but humid day you can throw a coffee filter over the reservoir filler with ab elastic band and that will let you slow bleed it in a damp enviroment. I know this works as I have two brake fluid testers and out of the bottle the fluid registers next to no water, yet if you do even a normal brake bleed as done in this vid on a cold wet day my more expensive fluid tester will show a noticeable hike in water in the system. I got told about the coffee filter thing decades ago its a standard trick for marine mechs when working on fluid refills. I dont argue with marine mechanics or brake fluid tester machines so adapted my brake bleeding game to suit

Hi Rick great video I need to fit a new caliper osf on my qashqai, will I get away with just bleeding the one wheel or will I have to do all four
@_RicksGarage
@_RicksGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard. If you disconnect the old caliper and either plug it or connect the new Caliper straight away then you should be fine just bleeding the one Caliper. I’ve never had an issue doing this. Just make sure you have a firm pedal afterwards with the engine off. If for any reason your pedal feels spongy or different to how it was before then bleed all 4 corners. You should be fine though.
