It seems you have just sent thousands of people scrabbling through their darkest cupboards in search of the Helix CMs they bought years ago thinking it might come in useful some day ... & perhaps just using the circles as templates ... Perfect timing. I just discovered the Constructivist movement and have been recreating some of their graphic designs. Dawn, I have one of these Helix's (really I have 2, and do not ask Y 2, but I have 2). This is much better than a pointy compass which usually loses its place on the page. There is one more "circle maker" it is simple and little enough to carry in a purse, or in smaller notebook, and it comes in several colors of which I also have more than one. I love making a perfect shape, be it square, rectangle and Yes, circles/ovals too. Lu.

That is pimp! That couldn’t be anymore useful for undersea navigations. Heck. You’re submerged, following a designated bearing, you start circling possible shaded whereabouts drawing large hashtags calculating the outermost bearings at given distances across your forward heading, as seen from; +2°NM/-2°NL(200’), +8°NM/-8NL(400’)… You’d be a squid in the water!

I do find this tool to be very handy, BUT only if precision ISN'T important. The 4 printed on arrow markings for each 45° of the smaller circle templates are not very well centered. I suspect that there is not great quality control during manufacturing to make sure the painted on 4 little arrows are accuratly centered. Unfortunately, some are off a few mm, so when you line the 4 arrows up to your drawn + guidelines, they are not all properly centered over each other. (Ie for drawing a mandala template, or a bullseye target, etc, the spacing is way off.) I wish I could post a photo, lol because it's hard to explain! Lol I also wish that the arrow/pointer that's on the spinner was extended further out to the outer ring, so you can get a more precise measurement. I actually scratched onto the plastic, a line from the tip of the arrow to extend it further out, so I can see exactly what degree it will be pointing at. Thanks for the video!
@DrawTangleswithDawn9 ай бұрын
Absolutely not a very accurate tool, but it is good for me to make approximate divisions. Even if I took accurate drafting tools and drew out a mandala, I almost never am accurate with my pen and they all end up wonky anyway. It just makes my divisions closer than if I had to divide by eye.

How do you keep the tool to stay put? Also is there a place to mark the center if it does move? Thanks!
@DrawTangleswithDawn Жыл бұрын
I use a few small bits of my needed eraser evenly spaced around the bottom. it stcks enough but not so much that it damages the paper. If you need to mark the exact center you can

Mine sometimes jams too especially on the small inner circle. I found that putting a few tiny bits of blue tack underneath helps raise it just enough off the paper that it spins easier
