Just got one. Now I have a full blown Helix floor unit, HX Stomp, and Helix native lmao. Being able to just throw the stomp in a backpack with a laptop and record di's while monitoring a nice full patch is amazing. The floor unit is now reserved for at home and gigs and I use Native to mess with everything after it's been recorded. What a time to be alive.

It's possible to record 4 channels simultaneously with the stomp - the 3rd and 4th channels can be recorded from the Return / Aux In L + R channels. These will be unprocessed and I think work best at line level, but it's still handy if you have an outboard pre-amp or mixer to run in-between the audio sources + Stomp Return / Aux in. Quite handy, in a pinch. (Edit - this is touched on in the video, but just to make this completely clear).

I have a Patch in my HX Stomp top that I am on. When I unmute input 1 I hear my guitar 2x and when I unmute input 5 as well I hear my guitar 3x. Is there a setting in the HX stop I need to turn off or mute so I don't hear my guitar straight out of the headphone first??? And why do you think I am not getting a clean output on input 5?? @rhitosparsha5 жыл бұрын
@@rockwriter9054 Not everybody likes to commit to the sound they get the first time around. Sure, you should dial in the sound before you hit record, but it's nice to have a backup in case you messed something up (like not having a delay on and the part required you to), or say you find that the tone sounded great on its own, but doesn't really fit the mix well. I'm currently in the process of recording an album with my band, and I'm recording DIs of each track, just in case the engineer wants to change the tones later when we hand over the songs to him for mixing.
@rockwriter90545 жыл бұрын
@@rhitosparsha yes everyone paints a picture a different way and your method is OK if you don't know exactly what tone you want, that's why I said get it right before you hit the record button, I certainly wouldn't let an engineer Change my tone I would listen to a co producers opinion of course, and if it's drastically wrong or have forgot to add delay , you do it again! But your method like many others is not wrong, but I find laying down a dry track some how I loose the feel in my fingers. But on certain software you can have a distorted overdrive sound going through the head phones but it lays it down dry, thank you for your reply
@rhitosparsha5 жыл бұрын
@@rockwriter9054 Yes, these are just options for people to use if they want to. Personally, I don't really like to reamp, and like to get it right the first time. It's less of a hassle that way, and also due to the fact that there's a certain way you adjust your playing to the response of the amp for the desired sound, and it wouldn't make sense if a different amp is used. However, keeping the amp same and changing the cab might be fine. And yes, if you're using VSTs and plugging in your guitar directly to your interface, the sound recorded is always dry.

Thank you for your videos! They’ve really helped me record with my hx stomp as an audio interface. However, I’m still unable to adjust the input gain when I’m trying to take levels before recording since the hx stomp does not have a knob for adjusting the input gain. I found that I can reduce the input gain by lowering the volume on my guitar but can’t raise it once my Guitar’s volume is at 10. I made sure that the amp in the chain’s channel volume is at 10 as well but I still can’t get the input past -15db on my daw (logic) when I would like for it to be closer to -12 or -6db to get a nice, healthy signal. The volume knob on the hx stomp acts as a monitor and only affects the volume at which I’m hearing it in my headphones and not the signal itself. I thought about maybe adding a gain plugin while recording in the track’s channel strip but I don’t know if that would distort the signal or do something else to the take’s audio quality. Is there anyway to adjust the input gain? Thanks and have a nice day!
