I think the intermittent audio loss is the weather alert. Just need to turn it off.

ID52 is by far the best HT I've ever had. Hands down. But, different strokes for different folks

The most depressing thing about the ID-52 is for $650 you don’t get a full APRS client. It’s why I bought the TH-D74 used.
@kd9nrt Жыл бұрын
It does seem like they could fix this with a software update. We can hope they will do this eventually.
@ToddRichmond2 жыл бұрын
agree that the D74 is a great swiss army radio. On shore power I use it as a scanner as it'll cover a lot of ground (eg 42mhz) including HF if need be. The only knock is the battery life. The 878 is the battery king ime and can do 220 but no extended receive. Radios are all a set of compromises. 73
@truckinguy922 жыл бұрын
Are you referring to the ANYTONE 878? Didn’t know it could do 220 as well.
@ToddRichmond2 жыл бұрын
@@truckinguy92 you have to load a different band plan config into the radio, but it can do 220 (though only about 1w output iirc)
@dustinhasselbach6378 Жыл бұрын
The thd74 was the best sounding radio before all these radios were thought of. I think I'm going to buy a id-52 used to calm the sting of the price a little. Lol

Great video two thumbs up 👍👍. Anyone needing power via USB? What I use is a Milwaukee M18 battery pack from my power tools. I got mine from Home Depot they sell for about $30. Their are other brands that do the same thing example Makita, power tools.

In my country, being an island nation, we have about 90% cell phone coverage. 100% wherever I go. Do I need APRS ?
@kd9nrt Жыл бұрын
That is up to you to decide. I only put the information out there. I don't live where you live. For me, I just like the mode. I use the messaging feature and like to do APRS satellites. That is my use. You decide.
@DonzLockz Жыл бұрын
I agree 100% with all your points raised on what it should have for $650. APRS and DTMF is the deal breaker for me though.🤷♂️

The charging point is a good one - one of the main reasons I’m considering a 650 ht- maybe rechargeable back for AAA?

I was going to buy one tomorrow after watching 30 review videos. Still hesitant about the vol knob, another user gets moister inside the main display, and a big jump from DMR to D-star, still undecided.
@kd9nrt2 жыл бұрын
If you have D-Star in your area, it is a solid radio. You can find radios that cast less and do more. For a flagship at a lower price, I would suggest the FT5DR or the FT3DR, if you can find a new one at a good price.

I have a couple Yaesu's that also use the DC jack. I found a cool tiny board that will take USB C PD "Power Delivery" and provide 12vdc up to 5 amps at the output. I took a couple of these and turned them into adapters that allow me to charge these Yaesu's from a charger pack that has USBC PD. Works great and charges faster than the regular dc adapter that comes with the radio's. Might be an option for you 5DR. If your interested, I will send you the link from amazon. "not affiliate" lol...73

That would be great. Anything that can help slim down my setup. I would love to daily my FT5, but it is hard knowing that I will need to have a way to charge it.

How do you not mention the Icom app that makes using the radio really easy, and a breeze to upload repeaters, etc. Also, you don't mention the waterfall display?? Why? Kenwood or Yeasu have nothing like that.

The main manufacturers treat its customers with a lot of contempt. I own a Mac and yet only Elecraft offer an interface! I can’t believe that in this day and age Yaesu, ICOM and Kenwood don’t. USB interfaces on radios are relatively new and yet the technology has been around for a very long time. See what I mean - contempt. Enjoy your radio 73 de M0AZE Mike

I agree. There is a trend right now for a minimalist setup with few wires and components. USB is the way to make that happen.

If you want to hear someone talk 95% about everything EXCEPT the IC-52A, this is for you. Very little actual information. Very much blather. Sorry, but that’s just how it is.
