Legendary phone. It came out when I was just starting high school, and one of my friends got it as soon as it came out. It was a beast back then, and I don't really think any other phone was close to this one at that moment. I remember how we were amazed with it's performance, and how it was faster than any other phone. Also camera quality was one of the best, if not the best at the time.

@mark030a2 жыл бұрын
@@eyesforthewise Reaaally debatable. Most were on the cheap side for quite acceptable performance, yes, but at the time in late 2010 to 2011, Android as an OS couldn't even come close to iOS standards by a long shot. Especially if you consider the userbase at the time. Android Market was stagnating behind the App Store, and Game Center was the final nail in the coffin for the gaming part of the mobile market But Android was a beast when it came to versatility in its use, I'll give it that. And I guess it kinda caught up with iOS in late 2012-2013, as that's when I remember most Android devices gaining popularity, and Google Play Store taking off.

Yikes, I think you have been better off with a $50 USD Android GO phone like the Alcatel Glimpse/Apprise, as it at least has 2GB RAM, and a lowend, but usable quad core SOC, will run most modern apps outside of demanding games, and with Android GO being slimmed down it's still very snappy on the limited hardware.

@CommodoreFan642 жыл бұрын
@@Brian-jv8iy Depends on what phone you have laying around as many older Android phones are no longer supported with security updates, and apps will no longer work on them period, like my old first gen Moto E which no longer supports my credit union app because of the older version of Android, and without a custom ROM running a new version of Android(many don't have the option for a custom ROM) leaves them in a state of security vulnerability, so spending $40 - $50 if that's all you have on a working modern Android phone even with Android GO 10 can be a better option than a much older phone.

My mum got the iPhone 4 when it was released, this was the first smartphone anyone in our family had so naturally, it took some time to understand. I remember playing heaps of random games on it, my favorites being Omega Drive and some plane game that plays the saddest piano you'll ever hear when you crash. This phone is on some version of IOS 7 and it is very slow, but it gets the job done if you're patient. The battery still holds up very well, along with the design, camera and even the screen.The home button now however is failing. Personalty I just love the design that older phones had, small square screens, thick bezels etc. Don't get me wrong I love modern phones, I have an S20+ and couldn't be happier with it, but there's just something about older phone design that I just prefer.
@realspeedghxst2 жыл бұрын
Yeah like Samsung's home button and rounded square camera that design is so iconic and you can tell by a mile it's a samsung but in 2019 everything changed and also the volume buttons on the left are now on the right side (which I hate cus I'm left handed) and the s7 edge I would say is Samsung's perfect phone
@BigBoiiLeem2 жыл бұрын
I will say, the design of the iPhone 4 and 4s ranks near the top if you ask me. Like, I had a 4S for *years* and I absolutely loved it, it was comfortable, easy to use with one hand, and it felt solid and well built. It also had a bit of heft to it, which I'm a fan of.
@captainkuijt2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I recently bought one used and downgraded it to iOS 6.1.3, been using it as my daily driver for a week now as fun little experiment. Despite it being an 11 year old phone it still feels exceedingly premium in both build quality and appearance, much more so than modern smartphones in my opinion. The S7 Edge from Samsung comes very close, but I'm not a fan of the rounded edges and lack of heft to the phone.

Nice review! I still have my older Samsung devices as well, notably a Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus from 2012, and a Samsung Galaxy S4 from late 2013. You've mentioned the exact reason why I don't install system updates on older phones (unless they cannot be avoided): app support is only going to be guaranteed for a short amount of time, whilst each update of OS tends to affect performance of the device. It's why my Galaxy S4 still lives on Android 4.2. It can be upgraded to Android 5.0, and I could have done that a year or two ago (to get apps working again), but nowadays even Android 5.0 isn't enough for full app support. Therefore, it's not worth me updating the Android version.

This means that the device will still work for basic calls and texts - but no one will want to use EDGE or GPRS data in 2022. I don't suppose 150kbps maximum is going to cut it anymore. In Australia (where Psivewri is) 2G has been disabled before 3G - whereas in Europe, 3G is going before 2G (on the whole). So it's always best to make sure your device can support at least 4G, for high speed data access.

I’d be interested to see how some of the last Windows Phones perform now. Every once in a while I get the urge to buy an old Windows Phone to mess around with but phones like the Lumia 950 are still selling for more than $125 on eBay.

I am still using my old Lumia 435 for One - Notes & as an alarm clock but I broke my Lumia 640 XL I liked Cortana and the camera quality was really good with all the manual controls available took some really nice pictures back in the day also really liked the metro interface and how I can organize it - especially notes and folders for them!

The Windows phones that came out around circa 2014 were Microsoft's best attempts and chances at becoming a serious Android and iOS competitor IMO, and they ultimately failed.

I am one more person who says “I have one of these in a drawer.” I forgot I even had it until I saw this video. The small size almost makes me want to start using it again. It would be fine just to use as a phone only and not as a “mini computer.”

nice video even very informative how to improve the experience by downgrading back to iOS 6. could be worth picking up as a 3rd phone for rarely used things like foreign SIMs and starter phone for a kid.

Speaking of old iPhones, it kinda shocked me that the iPhone 3GS can still play KZbin videos through the browser… it doesn’t freeze or hitch… with a 600mhz cpu and 256mb of 200mhz ram

The screen was too damn small even in 2011, I remember that being my number one complaint and it's what ultimately drove me to Android for almost a decade before going back to the other side last year. Up until iOS 8 the phone ran fine, iOS 8 made it horribly sluggish and iOS 9 only improved things a little. Still have the 4S and it still works with 87% battery health, pretty impressive really! More of a curiosity these days than a useful phone, it's locked to Sprint and 3G and CDMA are no more so only useful as a WiFi device for playing media.

Funnily enough I am still using 2 of these in my GF's car for music. Her VW will only accept a 30pin connector for the AUX input so I loaded up the lastest compatible spotify and we're away! Only issue is when I need to download the "Daily Mixes" they have to remain on and can get very hot!

Heh, I still have my 4S. Recently dusted it off and the battery still holds a charge, too! 3G is about to be shut down the US this year, so mine won't usable as a phone for much longer. Although iOS 9 is quite sluggish on these phones, there are tricks that one can do to make them way more usable. Stuff like disabling Spotlight search, enabling the "reduce motion" option under Accessibility, disabling background app refresh. Those things help a ton! As for apps that have a later iOS requirement, one can download the app through iTunes, and then attempt installing the app again on the phone. It'll ask if you're okay with installing an older version of the app, instead of nagging about an unsupported iOS version.

When youre speaking about games which still works on iOS6. Recently, I've restored iOS 4.1 on my iPhone 3GS and try to download a few games, which i purchased long time ago. I've been so impresivelly surprised that this king of Brick from Dino era could run Need for Speed Most Wanted 2012 and it is quite good playable :D. Phone from 2009 with software from early 2010 can run game from 2014? :D Same with GTA SA on iOS 6 on the same device - no problem with that. This is where Apple's quality comes into play.

One of the things I miss from that era was the original charging sfx that played when you plugged it in. I also miss the design language Apple used before everything started to become flat colors and simplistic shapes. Remember the original Books app?
