Using the ‪@rolandglobal‬ MC-707 as a TR-8s - make your own Drum sounds as tones.
While trying to see if I can use the MC-707 as a TR-8s. I found a way that at least makes it work like a dedicated drummachine. If you load Tones on the MC-707 tracks instead of Drum kits you will be able to make your own drum sounds, either ine the Mc itself or in using Zenology Pro. the track then is only playing that sound and you get access to the knobs controllers and motion recording. Of course it's not a TR-8S but it gives you a Drum mahcine workflow in still keeps the other MC's features available. In this video I prepare my own Drum sounds in #zenology then export them in the #MC707 then modify some of the sounds using the internal MC707 synth engine.

I miss your Roland hardware videos. I’ve got both machines and there is a lot of overlap but I can’t bring myself to part with the TR-8s. Even tho some of its limitations frustrate me, as do those of the MC-707. Together tho, it’s nearly a complete set up. I know Roland has been accused of leaving just enough features out of a lot gear in order to encourage additional purchases. Possibly true. I’ve been using synths and drum machines since the early 90s and had so many machines, these are my two favorites of all time after having them for a year.

the other reason I would entertaining selling the TR8S, not USB class complaint with the iPad vs the MC707 is. yet the minute I do that, Roland will release an update. Good video and logic you've shared. I think I will keep both to avoid any regrets as they are both fun and I do not was to get GRAS (gear re acquisition syndrome)

interesting you say that. i record both tr8s and MC707 via usb even on Linux because both provide class compliant audio - and i even get all tracks separately which is great for recording some jamming around but have many options for later editing and mixing. But never really tried with an iPad, i think it should work, but there might be something missing. there is something in the settings to chose some USB mode i think, on both tris and 707.

I sold my TR8S, I wouldn't sell my MC707 or MC101. I never got into the TR8S workflow. I think it would have been different if I had been using Zenology but I didn't.

thanks! intersting, i didnt know i can built tone patches for 707 in zenbeats… but i didnt fully get what that has to do with using mc707 like a tr8s… the 707 has many drum sounds already…. but anyway, i learned something interesting!

I settled on the 707 and 6S with 6S slaved. With 6S size and running on batteries, works pretty well.

The only thing I don’t like in tr6s is inability to save kit or pattern without interrupting the sound playing. Volcas and electrons can do it.

If using samples then on the 707 you can also use your own samples in the Instrument section, not only in a drum track. Only you can have only 1 sample per part then.

You are right. It then opens up to any sound.
